Here's a quick example:
Vocals: Matthew Bellamy (Muse), Amy Lee (Evanescence)
Drums: Jörg Michael (Stratovarius)
Guitar: Dave Keuning (The Killers)
Genre: Alternative Rock, Heavy Rock
Comments: I love Bellamy's vocals, especially in the Muse songs "Starlight", "Bliss", and "City of Delusion". Amy Lee is, of course, a fantastic vocalist. Jorg Michael's drum skills are superb (listen to "Stratofortress", and hear that drum solo, you'll see what I mean), etc.
Possible Names: Tempest Awakening (I dunno, it just sounds cool :P )
Hope you have fun with this topic. :D

Guitars: Matthew Hoopes (Relient K), Adam Gardner (Guster)
Drums: Dave Douglas (Relient K)/Neil Peart (Rush)
Genre: Punk rock, alternative rock, rock.
Comments: Jon Foreman has a really nice voice, Hoopes has some awesome guiatr licks, Adam has a cool style, Dave has a good punk beat, and/or Neil Peart is the best drummer ever.
Doubt they sound all that gret together, since they all have different styles, but it could work.

Vocals: Kele Okereke (Bloc Party)
Guitar: Kaoru (Dir En Grey)
Bass: Nikola Sarcevic (Millencolin), Atsu C-roll (Mach Pelican)
Drums: Toshi 8-beat (Mach Pelican)
Genre: Punk rock/Alternative.
Comments: I chose Kele Okereke because he has a rad voice, as you'll find out if you listen to some of Bloc Partys' songs. I chose Kaoru from Dir En Grey because he is an amazing guitarists, some of Dir En Greys songs have some sweet as guitar solos. I chose Nikola and Atsu because I LOVE the bass-lines on Millencolin and Mach Pelicans songs.
And I chose Toshi 8-beat cause he's just rad ;)

Vocals Chris Cornell. Love most of his stuff. If only it was more fast paced.
Drums Mike Portnoy. Love this guy. Fast, powerful, rhythmic, creative. And an awesome guy.
Lead Guitar John Petrucci. My favourite guitarist ever. Pretty much every Dream Theater song he amazes me. Thats how good he is.
Rhythm Guitar James Root. Love his solo in Pulse of the Maggots. Doesnt quite make top spot as lead, because John just owns him. Several times over.
Bass guitar John Myung. Have you seen him in the Glass Prison live video? His fingers are flicking around at top speeds. Awesome, awesome bass player.
Keyboards Jordan Rudess. No question. He puts together speed, melody and pure awesomeness. Best keyboardiest ever IMO
Note how I have all but 1 Dream Theater member in this band. Thats how much I like them
Genre Metal, Heavy Metal, Progressive Rock, Progressive Metal, Rock
Comments What's cool about this, is that all of these bands have actually played together. Not Chris. But DT and Slipknot have.
Possible names Muse suck, Worm, Flux Paradigm.

Ha. And don't worry, you don't need to create a full band - just throw around ideas/suggestions for band members.
Speaking of which, anyone have good suggestions for drummers/percussionists from any particular band?

Mike Portnoy. One of the most creative, awesome drummers around. I would say Joey Jordison, but he's moer fast and heavy. Mike changes his style to whatever the song is like. He can play the heavy stuff, but when Dream Theater do Jazz, he can make up an awesome drum solo on the spot.

Lead Vocals- Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath, Dio)
Lead Guitar1: Randy Rhoads (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne)
Lead Guitar2: Marty Friedman (Megadeth)
Lead Guitar3: Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vocals: Dave Mustaine (Metallica/Megadeth)
Bass: Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue, Bridges of Destruction, solo)
Drums: Lars (MEtallica)
And the band name?
Quiet Motley Megatallicasabadiozzy
Yes, a 4-guitar band is possible. So are two lead vocalists >_> Think of the pwnage.
I originally had Bob Dasiley in there, but I replaced him with Nikki Sixx mainly for his songwriting video. (And because Kickstart my Heart came on the radio)
Then I remember that he DIED and was shot up with Adrenaline and came back to life.
How ownage is that?

Name: Vitriolus
Genre: Melodic black / death metal
Lyrical themes: Sadness, loss, hatred, philosophy, anti-religion.
Members:
Lead harsh vocals: Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
Clean male vocals: Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind)
Clean female vocals: Liv Kristine (Theatre of Tragedy)
Guitar 1 (rhythm): Dallas Toler-Wade (Nile)
Guitar 2 (lead): Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun)
Guitar 3 (extra solos and leads): Galder (Old Man's Child)
Bass: Brendan Brown (Ne Obliviscaris)
Keyboards / Piano: Jens Johansson (Stratovarius)
Violin: Timothy Charles (Ne Obliviscaris)
Drums: Romain Goulon (Disavowed)
KC was a close second for the drum position, but Romain is just untouchable in my eyes (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Qk_qmC0E-pY). 3 vocalists I think would work well (some layering of all 3 at once could be great). Brendan Brown is, I think, the best bassist on the planet. You've not experience a live show until you've seen him doing a 30 second bass solo, and I'm talking shredding on the bass, he's incredible, has a real feel for the instrument). Dallas was chosen for rhythm because he's one of the fastest rhythm guitarists I've ever heard. Some violin parts would fit in with the mature sound the band would be creating, adding another dimension to the grandiose atmosphere.
Overall the band would combine the melodic feel of bands like Wintersun and Old Man's Child with an intense rhythm section and drum work, but also stripping it all back to a couple of instruments at a time to craft a very dark, brooding mood.

Name: Bound to Oblivion
Genre: Melodic Progressive Death metal
Lyrical themes: Death, loss, mortality
Members:
Lead vocals: Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
Support vocals: Stu Block (Into Eternity)
Lead/Rhythm Guitar: Syu (Galneryus)
Bass: John Myung (Dream Theater)
Keyboards: Marco Sneck (Kalmah)
Drums: Max Duhamel (Kataklysm)
Syu provides lead and rhythm guitar for Galneryus so he can do it for my band too, he also happens to be one of the world's top guitarists http://www.youtube.c...h?v=tookjuYabvA, have to agree with Agatio about Åkerfeldt the best vocalist out there
as for sound of the band, it's be the more like the Into Eternity school of progressive death combined with thwe melodic insanity of the likes of Kalmah and Galneryus

Guitarist: Skippy, I hear he's pretty badass
Bass: eugine, he's just that cool, he'd wear some wicked shades and it'd be awesome
Drums: I'd have to say gl, because drummers are always taking their shirts off.
...toasty for back-up drummer because drummers tend to die
Okay but really I don't know specific names of people for a band
vocals: dallas green (oh lookie I do know) and raine maida (...he can just stand there and write the lyrics and be gorgeous)
guitarist: that guy from taking back sunday

Yes, Dave Grohl is awesome, but Claudio Sanchez sounds like he's on helium, his voice is so squeaky.
