Okay you fools, I'm going on vacation next month and I hate vacations. In order to survive the intense bordom, the scorching sun and the stupid beach with half-naked fat women who have saggy breasts bigger than their heads I need you clowns to recommend me some good books. I'm very open-minded and don't care what genre it is, just make sure there's a high possibility that I'll like it. So far a few friends have suggested I check out Andy McNab and that author who wrote Angels & Demons and the Da Vinci Code book, I forgot his name. Someone else also suggested I check out Terry Pratchett so anyone else got any good suggestions on books/authors I should check out?

The author name is Dan Brown. I suggest getting two of his books. Any of his books will do really, but I recommend Angels and Demons and Deception Point. I said two, because after two the rumour is that his books get really predictable.

John Grisham books are also awesome. Probably my favourite author of all time. I recommend getting all . His books are about legal drama with a bit of racism. I suggest The Last Juror and The Street Lawyer.

Finally, if you haven't see Eragon, because the movie destroys the book, I recommend Eragon from the Inheritance Trilogy. Haven't read the second yet, but once an author can right, he can write, so pick up the second one as well.

Definitely 1984, by George Orwell. It's a classic, and perhaps you've read it already, but it's a brilliant work about a hauntingly real dystopian society (read: it'll scare the hell out of ya).

I would have mentioned Harry Potter, but really - is there anyone who hasn't read Harry Potter?

I recommend the Geomancer/Tetrarch/Alchymist/Chimeara cycle of books by Ian Irvine. Its a tad tricky to get into and understand the whole way that the mythical world works (It has a pretty complicated techno-magic set up) but once your into it you probably won't put it down. Its also a bit darker than normal fantasy books, more death and hideous wounds and starvation and genocide etc...

Also, The Gaunt's Ghosts novels by Dan Abnett are pretty good. They're set in the Warhammer 40k world, so I'm not sure you'd understand some of the finer points if you don't know about the 40k universe, but they are very good reads. Again, a bit darker than the average fantasy/sci-fi tale, theres a lot of bloodshed/death/war etc.

I can only really recommend fantasy/sci fi books to ya I'm afraid, I don't tend to read other genres a lot. (or manga. at all. bleh.)

I can attest to the second book being pretty good as well, but...I've read better. Can a book by an author who doesn't know the meaning of the word "clan" be all that good?

I hate disagreeing with Eugine on everything all the time but, I personally don't recommend Eragon. The books rip off like every fantasy story out there, along with Star Wars. But that's me.

If you're a light reader, read the Pirates! books, I believe they're fairly popular in the UK. Also, if you like books that make you think, read The Giver. I don't know who the authors are and I don't feel like looking it up myself, so you can do it.

I have other books that I could recommend, but they're debut novels for the authors so I dunno if they'd have been published in the UK, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

Read Gil's All Fright Diner by A Lee Martinez. That book is hilarious and addicting, I couldn't put it down.

There's also How to Get Suspended and Still Influence People by Adam Selzer. It takes place in a middle school (dunno what the UK equivalent is) so you might think it'd be a bit too "kiddy", seeing how I think you're out of (or almost out of) High School (again, dunno what the UK equivalent is)

I'm backing Eugine with Angels and Demons and Deception Point. They are the better two.

I recommend Lee Child, his books on Jack Reacher are fantastic. I'm reading him now.
Also Harlen Coben. But only his Myron Bolitar books, I haven't read his stand alones.

                      Just raid your libary.

Never heard of them. If you haven't read the Ender trilogyby Orson Scott Card yet, I'd suggest that. It's sort of political/science fiction, except awesome.

Mainly hentai manga and doujinshi, I like to read anything that's really interesting. I've never been picky with a certain genre since I think every genre has a variety of excellent titles to offer which is why I don't want to be more specific. I was looking at a book today called Empress Orchid, has anyone heard of it? The book's about a girl who is selected to be one of the Emperor's concubines and she has to get laid as much as possible to try and have his child before any of the other concubines. This is because the women who has the emperor's child will become the empress. It sounds right up my alley, y'know?
