I won't go into crazy detail, but here's the lowdown on the new lineup.

    iPod Shuffle:
    • Mostly the same, redesigned colors.
    iPod Nano:
    • Increased space at lower price
    • Addition of video
    • Smaller design
    iPod Classic:
    • New aluminum style, similar to the previous gen Nano
    • Lower prices and improved space, up to 160 GB
    • Cover Flow album selection screen
    iPod Touch:
    • Similar design to iPhone, but for half the cost
    • Touch screen and widescreen options, just like iPhone
    • 8 and 16 GB models

I read about these in an e-mail that I got from apple. I'm pretty happy that the new iPods can play video though. and the iPod touch looks pretty interesting, but it seems almost exactly like the iPhone. The only difference being that it doesn't function as a phone.

And it's not $600 with an $80 a month plan fee.

Yeah, but it doesn't have phone capabilities. Though I guess you could just get a RAZR or some crappy phone or something to use instead. The only drawback though, would be that your music/video wouldn't be paused if you got a call.

Who cares. Mostly with the iphone. For my birthday I got an old ipod photo, 20gb for $180. Great value, I only filled about 9gb of it so far. And I also got the Nokia 6120 Classic free on a $29 cap. Who needs to spend excessive amounts on the new ipods or iphone. People are just buying into the brands now.

I'm just here to deliver the news, I'm not planning on buying any of these. My current iPod Nano is working as well as it was when I bought it.

You know, in the future, there won't be iPods, or mobile phones, or PDAs. They'll all be bundled together with the same gadget, and they'll probably be called something like 'handheld multimedia devices' or 'multipurpose smallscreen computers'.

                  You mean like an iPhone?

Hopefully in the future, normal people can buy them though.

The iPhone doesn't support a GUI though.

No, they'll be called "nano-chip brain implants" as they'll be put into our brains, and we'll be able to see the screen as if it was right in front of us, because the chip will send signals to the part of the brain the proscesses video. Everything on the screen will be controlled by thought.

Why would you need 20? It costs more to get 20, and you can only use one at a time. I'd get two, so if one breaks, I can just use the other.

But back on topic, what's the fugging point? I got the original nano for £70, and this new one is £100. There's nothing new about it, so why bother? Most people in the world either have an ipod or another music player. I haven't even filled my 2gb ipod halfway, so what's the point? Only rich people will actually throw out their old ipods just to get a new one.

Buy a old photo generation ipod for $180 AUD. Best investment ever, seeing as even's Splits Iriver would have cost close to if not more then my old ipod.

The new Nano's play videos as well as music, instead of just the latter. THAT'S why it's actually worth it to go for the new generation. At least for this time.

Depends if you actually need video capabilities. Since watch owns a 2GB Nano, I'm assuming that he only wants to use it for casual listening.

Buy a old photo generation ipod for $180 AUD. Best investment ever, seeing as even's Splits Iriver would have cost close to if not more then my old ipod.

                                        How does $300 AUD sound?

Yeah, ripoff. At least it was a Christmas present.

[EDIT] Did I just double post? Oh shiii-

What I really want is a first gen nano. I hate the rounded edges on the 2nd gen, and these ones are just weird.

The new Nano's play videos as well as music, instead of just the latter. THAT'S why it's actually worth it to go for the new generation. At least for this time.

4gb and a tiny screen isn't going to give you many very good videos.

The proportions on the new Nano are horrible. It's like My First iPod or something.

Push a button and you'll be teleported in there. Home? Same deal. AND you can listen to music and watch movies, and it can even turn into a gun.

Actually, in some ways, I like the new Nano better. The added width was necessary to add video capabilities (which, according to the CNET Review, is amazing), and now it looks like a smaller version of the iPod classic, which makes the entire iPod lineup together look more streamlined.

Ah yes, another lineup of new and improved iPods, making my first gen iPod Nano look even more dated.
And I won't have the funds to update for some time yet, well, I could buy one now but I'd feel guilty because there wouldn't be much left in my account for more important things lol.

You know, the iPod Touch could effectively be used as an iPhone if you patched yourself through Safari. All you need is an online call provider like Skype.

Well, since my poor shuffle got washed in the washing machine, I will now be saving up for the iPod touch. Main reason is because I got to play with the iPhone a little and I like it, but I don't want to pay so much for it. I already can get phones on the cheap every year through my plan I have.
