Halo 3 Biggest seller of all time or niche market?

Personally, I don't see Halo 3 coming close to the Halo 2 numbers. Not all Xbox owners necessarily bought a 360, and there aren't enough 360 owners to push the numbers past Halo 2.
What's your opinion?

But to answer your question I'll say that I hope it passes Halo 2, as Halo 2 was not nearly as good as the first. Crappy weapon balance.

Well, I'll be occupied for a few days on Tuesday. Then I'll be back late Wednesday after I beat the campaign, and so the wait for Assassin's Creed will start.
I've said it before. I'm not a big fan of multiplayer. I'll most likely watch videos I download of matches instead of actually playing multiplayer.

Halo 3 will be good, and I'm pretty confident that it'll sell just as, or almost as fast as Halo 2. But in the end, Halo 3 will sell more copies. My friend will be getting it the day it's out, so hopefully I'll get to play it the weekend after he gets it. I'd buy it myself, but I know for a fact that the likelyhood of me getting a 360 is 0.

I don't think Halo 3 will be able to match that as quickly, but I do think with all the hype (and all the great reviews it's gotten), it will eventually surpass its predecessor in every way.

Halo fanboys are so bad, the only reason Halo was so good was because the Xbox had a mega lack of decent games. And to be fair the Multiplayer wasn't that bad, I suppose Xbox Live helped as well. But I really hate the kids who reckon they love Halo because of the gripping storyline, what FPS ever has a good storyline!
#14
Posted 24 September 2007 - 08:16 PM
So it's unfair to say that FPS can't have a good storyline. Halo's storyline is pretty good, but I don't think it's as great as most people make it out to be. And Halo pretty much perfected shooters for consoles, before that shooters were supposedly only good on PCs. (with a few exceptions, of course)
But yeah, Halo's totally overrated. It's a good game, but it's overrated. Like GTA rofl.

Great fun at parties. All rockets is crazy frantic fun, and I like the idea of 4 player co-op in Halo 3. I don't think most shooters have great multiplayer for parties like Halo does.
Shields. This is a big thing Halo has that other shooters don't. You take damage, and if you take too much damage at one time your shields go down leaving you exposed, and too many hits while exposed means you die. Your shields will recharge as long as you don't take damage. This means you need to observe where your enemies might be and think about good places for cover in big battles, and possibly stealth rather than relying on a large amount of health (Metroid) or expecting your enemies to drop health packs (Metroid and lots of other shooters).
Vehicles. They're so much fun, and I don't think many shooters have vehicles. And if they do they're not as good as Halo's. Warty's and Ghosts are fun.
You guys talk a lot about how you dislike Halo, but I have yet to hear a reason why. I'm not a Halo fanboy, and it does have it's flaws like any game. But it's still good, and literally millions of fans can't be wrong.

My favorite thing about the series. ^
But seriously, if I had to choose between a Halo party and a Brawl party, I'd choose the Halo one, despite the fact that I'm far better at SSB than Halo.
That's not to say that I don't like SSBB, but if it came to playing videogames with a large group of friends, I'd rather play Halo.

My main beef with Halo is the fanboys. They ruin it. They overhype it and cut down anyone who says 'yea it's good, but so what?'. It is overhyped massivly, and no one can argue that.

The Forge in Halo 3 takes this a step (more like a jump) further. It is, for all intents and purposes, a map editor, but not quite as large as "map editors" for PC shooters like Half-Life 2. You can't edit terrain height or anything, (we can't make a mountain in the middle of Blood Gulch :P ) but what you can do is adjust position of spawn points, set the time for individual spawn points, lay down vehicles and weapons wherever you want, and adjust ammo for spawned weapons. You can also spawn other stuff besides weapons in the Forge, teleporters, and the Fusion Core which explodes when you shoot it or if it drops from a long height, and random crates and barrels.
It might not sound like a whole lot, but there is serious potential when it comes to good ol' ****ing around. Like one player riding in a Warthog while another player picks up the Warthog in the Forge and sends him on some kinda magic carpet ride. Or building a pyramid out of Fusion Cores around an enemy base and then shooting it, resulting in a huge explosion. What's cool is that all the players can use the Forge, so I think it can be chaotically fun.

Me and my friend were doing some co-op, and we went with a weird plan. I took the hornet, and he drove a warthog. (We were against two scarabs.) I pick him up eventually in the hornet, and fly him over the first. He destroys it, and just as it blows, he gets on and we fly the other one and do the same thing. And escape that explosion JUST in time.

In any one commercial, they're advertising/informing people about ONE thing. The item/service/event that they're trying to sell/promote.
On a site like gamespot or IGN, there are MANY different items being talked about or promoted. And they aren't all from the same company. So if they're promoting one thing more than the others, it's not right and they're being biased. Something that no word of mouth site should do.

I can think of many words that I would use, but pathetic is not one of them. Look, you guys have got to understand, EVERYTHING is about money. Everything! Nintendo can claim as much as they want that their main objective is to make original and innovative games, but that's not true. Making cold hard CASH is their main objective. They can say that their greatest wish is for all companies to make innovative games, but that isn't true either. Their greatest wish is to have a monopoly over the gaming market, and when it comes to video games, that is Microsoft's greatest wish too.
Tell me Split, do you think it's just a coincidence that all five of those little news squares at the top of IGN's pages were all about Halo 3 on the day it was released? People look at gaming sites A LOT more than any of us think and many of them only buy games that get the highest scores.
And please don't go on about how GameSpot and IGN can be trusted completely and that stuff. No "corporation", for lack of a better word, can be trusted completely because they are ran by humans, and humans will always want MONEY above all else. It's just the way the world works. You may think I'm paranoid or something, but I'm speaking the truth.
But don't get me wrong, I'm sure Halo 3 would have got excellent reviews even had MS not payed anybody. Just not as glorious and radiant as they are now.

Shouldn't that mean that Twilight Princess should have gotten a similiar rating to Halo 3 (or vice versa), and BioShock should have scored higher than both of those?

You'd be surprised actually. I'm a gamer who adjusts to new challenges quickly, but I've been very bothered about having to press the D-pad to communicate. The white button was great because it was easy to reach without affecting my movement or aiming, however to press the D-pad I need to take my hand off the left stick which means standing still.
I hit skill level 32 last night on matchmaking, it's great how the level of challenge has greatly increased at this point. Back when I was skill level 1-20 I was coming first in most games and even if I didn't it was only by a close margin. When you get over level 20 things get tough, your opponents are closer to your personal skill level and you're not coming first as often as you once were.

And Live Free or Die Hard was one of the best movies I've seen in a good long while, so though most of the new movies are crap, there's still a few really good ones.

ANYWAY. After that, we spent two and a half hours in forge on that one map that's got the beach, and the SAM pod with only one SAM in it, and a gate, and a bunch of other stuff (I think it was the map available in the Halo 3 demo). We stacked a ton of fusion box thingies in a pile in front of the SAM pod, and made a trail that led from the pile to that one gate where we put a bunch of propane tanks and two mongooses. Then he held on fusion box thingy high in the air directly above to pile, and I shot it just after he dropped it.
The result? A fusion bomb/chain reaction that could kill anyone in the middle of the bunker area, and then kill them again with flying propane tanks. The mongooses are a sort of lure that brings you in and then spontaneously blows your body to pieces. And it did this EVERY TEN SECONDS. n.n
We called it E.O.D.
