It's the retards. If it was me I would've made Crysis the best shooter and "breakthrough technology", The Witcher the best RPG, and Call of Duty 4 the best Multiplayer. BioShock would've still been GOTY though.

Spike TV's VGA is pretty much the same as MTV though.

Very much so. I dislike that they put all MS titles as GOTY, but it's *** that they don't have stuff like "Best Adventure Game of th Year" or "Best strategy game of the year" and stuff like th so the can actually represent titles OTHER than FPS. Now I like FPS quite a bit, but come on. It's obvious that they follow the stereotype that all american play FPS. Heck, the Major Leauge Gameing has ONLY FPS titles available. If you suck at FPS's, you can' be an MLGer. I find that REALLY ghey. Mostly because I suck at FPS's, but still. They don't have multiplayer RPG's, or Super Smash Bros. and other fighting games which are JUST as popular.

I'm not sure how they selected the VGOTY, bt it's kinda obvious that it's biased.

Seriously, how the heck can Bioshock be Game of the Year if CoD4 is the best shooter? I mean, how is that possible?!

And seriously, Galaxy wasn't even a nominee for Game of the Year. This is yet another thing that reeks of Microsofts millions that they can give out to anyone they want.

BioShock and the other nominates for GotY had more nominations than CoD4. The GotY nominees (or artist, movie, etc. of the year in other awards) are selected based on the amount of nominations from other categories.
CoD4 wasn't nominated because other games outperformed it in the other categories.

Plus, other factors must be considered when picking a GoTY. CoD4 probably was the better shooter, but BioShock outperformed it in many other aspects.

You can use the same reasoning to explain why Super Mario Galaxy wasn't nominated for GotY also.

Yeah, COD4 is a better shooter than BioShock in a gameplay sense, but BioShock is better in many other ways. You just don't see a game like BioShock very often.

But I can argue about COD4 being the best shooter this year.
