So far overall I'd say BioShock is the GOTY. Make no mistake, Crysis is superior to BioShock in many ways, but games like BioShock that blur the line between art and game, just don't come around often. You'd really have to play BioShock to see why.
I'll give more input when I play SMG.

Crysis shouldnt really deserve GOTY as its still just a usual shooter, just with more depth and interactivity. But you dont get better graphics than Crysis. Its an awesome game, just only groundbreaking in graphics ( Which I hope they use the engine for something else)
SMG is a good game, a very good game. But its overrated. Yes its good, but really, the only difference from Sunshine is the new gravity engine. And none of that water shooter crap. Its a good system, and it works with Mario, but I cant see it working with anything else. It doesnt really break new ground, the graphics are the best yet on Wii, but it's nothing compared to Halo, Crysis and Bioshock.

Nah, you basically have two "choices" in BioShock and that's harvesting or rescuing the Little Sisters. Other than that, BioShock is as linear as they come. What separates BioShock from other games is that it genuinely makes you FEEL like what you do matters. That's where it blurs the line between a video game and a piece of art.

I'm not saying this is my opinion, I'm saying that this is most likely how Gamespot and the rest of video game media looks at it.

Famitsu and Edge are the only gaming media i pay any attention to anymore.
Of the 3 mentioned, i'd have to go with SMG on the grounds of innovation and originality; very rare specimens in today's gaming industry. Crysis is generic FPSdom with a pretty face and Bioshock is a carbon copy of Systemshock 2.

Not played Metroid either, but if it's anything like the second game it CAN FECK RIGHT OFF
Of your list i'd say the Orange Box, because of the value for money and you get Portal

O RLY?
the gameplay stays fairly similar in FPS games, every few years an original appears which is promptly cloned for the next 2 to 3 years (Crysis IS NOT one of these titles), whilst the gameplay changes with FF game, sure you can say the premise is the same and battle system is pretty much the same, but the ability system changes vastly with each new title bringing a refreshing gaming experience. The other thing that changes completely with each is the storyline (admittedly not always for the better) but its definately better that way, we all know what happens when the same storyline is over used dont we? *glares at Mr. Miyamoto and the Zelda series* Seriously if you play FPS games for the plot you should be put down.

I've played many of games. That was just a weak attack at Nintendo fanboys. And I stongly disagree. OoT is way better than MM. Best game of all time in my opinion, and jsut slightly beating out FF7.

However I'm fairly sure this year's Zelda game won't be achieving any game of the year awards, unless it's just DS games.

Though I haven't played Crysis (yet, dang PC sucks balls), the AI, the graphics, and the level of interactivity with the environment are what makes it different. And as WD said, unlike most FPS's, you actually have more than one way of killing your enemy. I was playing CoD3 (which sucks on the Wii) the night before last, and it was boring because there was always only one path to follow, and one way to take out the enemy. No I've never played Crysis, but you don't have to play this game to know thta it's different.
But SMG is definately worthy of GOTY, but I think there's others that deserve it more.

For someone who openly admits to not playing Crysis at all, you sure seem to have developed a lot of opinions about it. I don't even know where you're getting your opinions, since Crysis has a rating of 91% on GameRankings and everybody I talk to has pretty much only good things to say. What I've seen on GameFAQs the only people who don't like Crysis either just don't like the genre, say the specs are too high, or don't understand how to play since they're probably used to having their hands help in FPS when Crysis is as much of a sandbox game as an FPS can get.
Anyway, GameSpot are online FPS fanboys in my opinion. I don't really care about their opinions anymore though I admittedly keep going to their site since I find it easier to use than IGN.

However, whether it's the only game to deserve the award is arguable, and I'm not going to debate it simply because I myself haven't played any of the other choices. But, on all accounts regardless, SMG is a fantastic gaming experience and for the past week I've seen for myself why it just might be one of the best games of all time.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love MM. It is a very great game. The way it was created, and the new "time/portal/worlds" theme with the three days was fantastic. Plus the skull kid was the best.

so then WD, do you often find yourself playing games that dont appeal to you in the slightest? cause i sure dont. My opinion was formed from reading the "notatallfanboyishcrysisthread", watching a few trailers and having lost almost all faith in FPS as a genre when it became cool to stop making enjoyable arcadey titles in the name of realism and ARMY ARMY LOL
I Don't give a **** what gamerankings and gamefaqs say, they can suck as much as they want as long as they keep their bullcrap bias reviews away from me.

Haha, I love how you think you're right about everything. Yes, you're allowed to have an opinion, but it doesn't neccesarily mean it's right.
Systemshock wasn't a game put in the spotlight, so it was ignored by most people. And even so, it may have had a small fanbase, but its not worthy of game of the year at all. Bioshock is in no way a carbon copy, as SS2 had more of an ' Alien' feel about it, while bioshock is a concept never touched on in games before. If you've played a game set in an underwater city with genetically modified mutants, then please, tell me more.
You havent actually played Crysis IIRC, I thought the same until I played it. Its possibly the most realistic game out there. It wouldnt have deserved to have won, but its not a bad game at all.
And OoT is more overrated than chuck norris.

did you see the part where i said Bioshock was a bad game? because i'm pretty sure i made no such comment. i'm just saying game has a few originality issues is all.

if i'm brutally honest i'd of probably ignored Crysis like i ignore most FPS games these days if it werent for a few encounters with its overzealous fanbase. much in the same way you'd appreciate OOT a lot if you didnt have to with all the ******s who'd raise an angry mob and torch your home to the ground the moment you anything remotely critical of their beloved OOT
