It's not like we're going off-topic and spamming in order to get our post count up; we go off-topic because we're a community that likes to talk to each other. If, in the common room, we needed to have completely on-topic discussion, even if it is allowed to be casual - it just wouldn't be the same. I bet without the common room we wouldn't know half about each other what we do.
'Sides, if we need to stay totally on topic, you bet there's going to be a clusterfuof topics that blow just so that we can talk about what we want without going off-topic. LAME.

That's the middle ground.
If not, it's no Common Room, or a Spam forum. The theory that we can have a less professional Off-Topic forum failed. So what'll it be?

I don't think that the right to post topics should be taken away, but I DO think that the common room should have an additional moderator that's on nearly every day, and can be trusted to make the right decsions. They should ONLY be allowed to moderate the common room.
Otherwise, a system that allows a topic to be closed when three different members agree that it should be closed.

Girlfriend/Boyfriend Topic ---------------> Relationship Topic

The rules are explicit, no spam except in specific topics. If you do not wish to abide by those rules, then you can go to other forums and engage in frivolous/spam posting. If you wish to be here, we ask that you abide by the rules. For the next day or two, I will ask the moderators to simply delete all spam posts, and issue verbal warnings via PM. Repeat and/or blatant offenders will be given real warnings. If you have real issue with this for some reason, please communicate me via PM or email, preferably with suggestions on how you would "fix" this situation.

Please observe the new topic creation rule in The Common Room (TCR) - All topics must have a purpose. This purpose can be your dog, your day, what colour shoe you have on or anything, however, you cannot create a topic and turn it into a multi-topical spam session.
If you feel you have the need to post something random, post in the now pinned That Random Topic (TRT).
Max and I feel that this should lead to more members having fun in a place where there aren't many posting restrictions.
Enjoy!

And I don't think it's fair to give all the work to the mods. That's why I proposed a Common Room Mod.

This person would have to be:
A ) Loyal to the rules and respected by forum members
B ) Be able to keep up with the huge amount of posting (spam or otherwise) in the CR
If this is agreed upon, we would need to spend a certain amount of time choosing the Mod. However, for now, we are following what is the new "official" policy - currently, that only verbal warnings will be given and spam deleted, and starting 48 hours from no, a NO SPAM TOLERANCE policy.
Done.

I could do it, but I'm saying that it's serious dedication that shouldn't be put on anybody's back, even for someone who could do so.

Plus, no one is saying not to go off topic in the Common Room, atleast do it with good merit.
Topic: Shoes
Topic starter: Hey, I got this new shoes. Check it out.
Poster: omg, that shoes is so sexy, i want to have sex with Diddy now. x3

Somewhat. The mods will be deleting posts that we consider spam and give out verbal warnings. If you persist with the spam, you'll get warned. Like Max said earlier, we're not preventing you from having fun, but you still need to stay somewhat on-topic consistently at the least in every topic except TRT.

Since this topic has run its course, I'm going to close it now. Please enjoy the common room as is, and if we (the moderating team) feel that another moderator is truly needed, we will make the necessary promotions and announcements.
