Wow, I always thought the correct spelling was 'doughnut'... dogh, nut, as one word... But Donut was a misspelled and commonly accepted truncation of the word stemming from the shop 'Dunkin Donuts'. However... 'Doughnut' is giving me the red underline in this box, so it could be dough nut, or perhaps 'donut' has just taken over the dictionaries by now. :P
