What makes a truly terrifying movie? What true failures have you seen, and what pant-shatters have you watched?

I have yet to see a movie that truly scared the pants off me.
Then again, I don't wear pants often.

Gothica.
Gothica wasn't scary, but there were two scenes that were freakin' scary. Me and my family were watching the movie and at those two scenes EVERYONE, I mean EVERYONE got scared. I actually got a bruze because of the way I reacted. TWICE!!!

I haven't been scared by any movie since I was five. Horror movies are usally cheesy with lots of gore.

American horror movies are just suspense, cheesy characters and the occassional DUN! moment, whereas Asian horror tends to be a lot more disturbing.
