Half Life 2, just got off boat, raided some rooms, and then find a switch(wheel thingy) to open a gate, but it's off it's hinges, and shooting sparks everywhere. What the **** do I do?

Try walking around a bit and looking at everything. HL2 is a linear game, you'll probably be able to find something to do but if not, became an hero.

I get off, walk up a ladder, shoot a dood, then enter a room with two tank like things. There is some dead mutilated guy strapped to a chair. When I go further, there's a fenced off area where I shoot some guy weilding a turret. Then I go further to the wheel. That's the best I can give. Oh, and the first guy I shoot is atop a broken bridge thing.

Ah, I think you know what you mean. There should be an explosive barrel near the valve thingy, you have to shoot it to blow a hole in the fence.

Worked like a charm. BUt it blew up, and slammed the gate in the water, not a fence.
