What brand are your drums? It's not too difficult to get a hold of a new skin, just search the size of your snare ( mine I think is 14" by 6") and you should get a fair amount of skins.

That's very tragic Gio. I know how you feel. I've busted a base drum head before.

I have already been looking, but the closest music store is about 45 minutes away and I only go down there once a week for lessons, but my lessons for this week have been canceled, so now I have got to go two weeks without my snare drum.

but I have a 14" Sonor snare drum. I am thinking about checking musicians friend out. Somebody told me you can get drum heads there for as little as $20

So does anyone here who plays drums have any suggestions on what I should get to replace it. I am looking for a short sustain. With a tone short of in the mid range, not bright but not dark,.

I wouldn't know. I only play the drums, and fix the drums. I care not what they sound like.

Unless the toms sound like crap. Or the snare doesn't have a good snap to it. Or the basedrum head is too loose and sounds all nasty and stuff.
