There are some graphical glitches in places where the game swaps palettes, or tilesets. For example, notice how the area around Mars Lighthouse at the top center of the map is covered with graphical anomalies instead of snow.
Random Fact: The entire world map takes up about 1.14 MB once decompressed to a format the GBA can use, but the GBA only has roughly an eighth of a MB of RAM. To make up for this the gigantic 8192x8192 World Map is split into manageable 256x256 chunks, only 4 of which are held in RAM at any time.

It's a little jerky when I scroll, but it didn't crash my PC. It's massive though.

That is one massive map though, lots of empty space. It's interesting to look at the stuff that's outside of the section of the map you can get to in-game though.

Maybe in GS3 it actually will be that big. :0

Numbers that are a power of two fall exactly on the bits in the computer (In Binary: 2=10, 4=100, 8=1000, 16=10000, e.t.c). When you want to multiply or divide by one of those numbers you can use a bitwise shift instead which a processor can handle a lot faster.
Also, if you're gonna work with binary data, 2^n is the most important equation you'll ever learn.
However interesting all that is, it doesn't explain why there's a box of extra map to the left of the main world map instead of empty space. Empty space certainly would've compressed more efficiently.

That's the main thing I was hoping people would notice. Other than that you can see Crossbone Isle above the map on the left side (Despite the fact that Crossbone Isle isn't actually accessible in TLA), the Prox/Mars Lighthouse area in the middle at the top, and Lemuria on the right.
It's clear to me what parts of the extra map there are for, but some of it is just weird.

tru dat.
And the boxes in the top right are images of Idejema (sp?) seperating from whatever continent that is at the beginning of TLA.
Though I don't know why crossbone isle is still there, unles there was just extra space that they wanted to fill with something.
[EDIT] Crossbone Isle was in the middle of the Karagol, Split.

I fail to see how you were talking about anything other than it's placing in the game, but w/e

You're right Ashley, all of the boxes along the top are from when Idejema is splitting from the continent. All changes that happen on the world map have to have already been mapped out.
Over on the bottom right is Idejema floating in the middle of the ocean, on the bottom left we have the bridge to Alhafra repaired, and just above it the entrance to the bay at Contingo being blocked by shallow rocks.
The rest of it is a bit of a mess, but clearly the area around Venus/Babi Lighthouse, and Idejema. Probably for when you're playing as Jenna at the beginning of the game.
