If you hadn't noticed, spambots seem to have returned to GSSF. The last update of IPB was supposed to stop spambots, but I guess that programmers have found a new way to poke them through.

I urge everybody to report any spambots posts you see, as this is the easiest way for me to find and delete their often disturbing posts and topics... unless you actually want the product being advertised. Do NOT reply to the spambots, because that's spam and doesn't really help anything. Just report it.

I have not yet upgraded to the latest version of IPB, I have not been as timely as normal in that regard. Because our support license has expired, I have to manually apply the diffs that they post, which is not as convenient as the normal patching process. I only noticed the new release today, so I'll try to get that done in the next 24 hours.

Didn't something like this happen before? How on earth do spambots get onto here anyways, I never really knew

aha I see, I've heard of these bots before but why are they targeting this site? Is it basically just out of luck that they find this site?

Well, when you put a forum onto Google you always run the risk of this sort of thing.

true since Google is a search engine I'm guessing its searching a certain type of category, so the bot find this one, so they also act similar to spider bots or web crawlers then? If so then damn, annoying xD

Spambots have been around for ages. But yeah, they kinda just raom the internet in search of websites they're designed to infiltrate, and then start advertising like a wacky-WAVING-inflatable-arm-flailing-tube man salesman.

Unfortunately, our license for IPB expired, so I can't download the last few patches for IPB. And I'm having a hard time justifying spending the money for a new license. These spam things tend to be cyclical, so we'll see how things go. If they continue to be as prevalent in a week maybe I'll reevaluate the situation.

$149.99, see http://www.invisionp...d/purchase.html (we'd only need the standard license).

Geez, I thought it was closer to $50 or something.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that it's to late to just renew the license for $25?
