I've been doing some math tutoring lately and I've decided to treat myself. I am in dire need of updating my old 4gb Sansa player, as well as it has done for me.

    Basic characteristics:

    - 16gb-30gb
    - Flash memory
    - not an iPod or Zune
    - above average sound quality
    - decent form/build, so long as it's manageable and easy to navigate it hardly matters
    - easy enough to jog with
    - large screen preferable

I hope these are flexible enough, any recommendations are appreciated.

I figured that older version of the ipod nano would be perfect for what you are asking for, but if not then Nos is right. The Sony Walkman is pretty sweet.

From my past experiance they tend to have an internal clock to stop working after 6-12 months.

            1st: Refused to charge anymore.
            2nd: Same.
3rd: Sound didn't work anymore. And no, I didn't drop it or any stupid **** like that.

The Sony one I've dropped on the cement a million times. It has a scratch.

I have had my the old school ipod nano for 4 or 5 years now, and the clock works fine. It is a really good music player. It even has a dent in the back of it from where I accidentally hit it with a drumstick while playing drums to songs on the ipod. I am not going to disagree, the Sony one is pretty amazing to.

And mind you, I wouldn't put it past my luck for all of mine to have been ****.

I`m sorry, but what trip are you going on that you need a 16gb MP3 player? That alone is 4000 songs...

((And before anybody flips I relaise you didn`t say you were going on a trip...just an example.))

It's not so much that there's anything wrong with iPods (sound quality could be better perhaps), more of the fact that I dislike it for being incredibly mainstream. Just want something a little out of the ordinary.

I've looked into reviews of the Sony Walkman, it does seem remarkably good and exactly what I'm looking for. Has anyone tried out a Creative Zen by any chance?

And Neo, if anything I thought I was aiming low... many people I know insist on getting a full 80/120 gb hard drive mp3 player, and I've never understood why.

That right there is retarded. I still fail to see why you`d ever need a 16, let alone a 30gb MP3 player Riad. You are never going to listen to that many songs between two times that you are on a computer.

I owned the 4GB version of this one until it died on me (which it did due to my mistake). It is the best MP3 player I have ever owned. You cannot beat it. It eats iPods for breakfast and craps them out on Zunes.

                        My friends agree.

                        Creative Zen

                        This is the fancier model:

                        Creative Zen X-Fi

I personnaly don't know. If i wanted an mp3 (I already have my phone for an mp3)I would just go ahead and buy an ipod.
