I read on article a while ago on how to download youtube videos. I already had a program or two I could do it with, but I wanted something simpler.

the article gave me this:

java script:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt=18&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']}

Just create a bookmark, and set that javascript code as the URL. When you're watching a youtube video, just click the bookmark you made, and it should initiate the download manager of whatever browser you're using.

I know it works in FireFox, and I think it works in IE too, but I'm not sure.

It's pretty handy if you ask me. No crappy software to install or anything.


It saves the file as an MP4, by the way.

I'm attempting this right now. It is just copy and paste for the code, yes? For some reason, Firefox is not letting me create the bookmark...

Novice question if you don't mind, is the "java script" part included too?

It won't let me save the bookmark. Like the place to click "add" is greyed out. :/

GUYS. FOR CHRIST'S SAKE

Save this webpage as a bookmark. Then, edit the bookmark with this code. Replace the URL with said code, and voila.


And yes GL, include the Javascript. Otherwise, the browser won't realise what language the code is in. Let alone that it's a string of codes to begin with.

Copy Script.

Paste into URL of the browser webpage. Get rid of the web address first, though.

Greasemonkey handles all of this for me. Creates a nice little button underneath the video I click on to download.

It should actually be 'javascript', not 'java script'. Its IPB that is breaking that up.

You can type javascript by itself just fine. When you add the rest of the script, though, it splits "javascript" in half, for security reasons.
