When average people in real life use internet memes

I lol.
I've heard a few people in my high school, who probably only ever use facebook/myspace, reference internet memes.
Like, this one time, one of my friends was like "Cool story bro!" and gave me a smile with a thumbs up.
I lol'd.
Anyone else ever hear people do this? Because I've got some computer geek friends who reference them all the time, but I hardly ever hear anyone else do so.
But when I do, I lol.

I use "cool story bro" sometimes too. I've used "I'ma let you finish" like once or twice, it's honestly hard to make that meme funny without forcing it.

Nobody's lives on there are in the least bit average
"Today, I was in class when my mum called me. I didn't answer but was worried something bad might have happened so I sent her a text asking what she was calling about. Her response? What is Homer Simpson's middle name? MLIA"
Because this happens to normal people on a day to day basis.

It has to be average, doesn't say anywhere that it has to happen to everyone. I mean what kind of a shitty website would that be?

But the humour was derived from the ironic contrast to FML, but now MLIA has become "my life is either really unique and extremely absurd or i've made this shit up"
The top MILA's used to be ones like "Today I celebrated my birthday on the right day", in a homage to FML, but now there's all this shit about playing twister in lifts, and yelling aboud harry potter in public, because all average people totally do all that shit.

But now it's a stand-alone site, not a parody. The things that happen in it are like,
"Today I was eating pop rocks in class. After a while I noticed that every time I opened my mouth to hear the popping, the guy next to me would get a funny look on his face and put his ear up to the computer. New favorite game? I think so. MLIA."
So it's like things that happen that are not extraordinary or anything, but just funny little occurrences that COULD happen to anyone (but don't necessarily).

Bring poprocks to your computer lab. Try to find people who DON'T look around with odd expressions on their faces. Douche.
