I have a dilemma. I had Garet equipped with the Darksword, but then I went to forge some Orihalcon and got another Excaliber (I have another one on Piers).

Now the Darksword's attack is +200, and the Excaliber's is +180. Plus I also notice that the Darksword unleashes Acheron's Grief eight times out of ten, while the Excaliber unleashes Legend even less.

I am wondering out of all the people here to get some opinions on this: Should I give Garet the Excaliber, or the Darksword?

If you have Cleric's Ring then Darksword is great one choice... but have you got so great weapons with Isaac and Felix that you don't want to give that Excalibur to them? But Excalibur can do even 900 damage with just one hit... that's a bad think to decide quickly... try both and choose which is better :D

Ummm...can you tell us Isaac and Felix's weapon setup? Because, unless you have them equipped with something better (Sol Blade, for instance), I'd give Isaac the Excalibur, and Garet, I dunno, Apollo's Axe or something.

I thought you couldn't give Excalibur to anyone but Felix or Isaac. :( Wierd. Oh well. I would give the Darksword to Garet if anyone. Unless you have a Cleric's Ring, cursing Felix is the last thing you wanna do.

The Sol Blade. Only Isaac and Felix can weild the Sol Blade.

Garet: I'd equip him with a powerul axe or mace. Same with Piers (unless you have a Mythril Sword). But that's just me.

And yea, Garet's strongest with axes in my experience.

Isaac has the Sol Blade. Felix has a Sol Blade as well. Currently Garet has an Excaliber, but he also has the Cleric's Ring. I went to the blacksmith and in two tries got a Dark Sword both times. I probably only need to use one, since only one character has the Cleric's Ring (Garet).

I suggest Excalibur. Darksword has a very low unleash, and is used only for strength, and since Garet doesn't have any strength-infected psynergies, Exaclibur is the better choice.

Two Sol Blades? ^_^ How did that happen? Strange...

anyway, yeah, I'd give Sol Blade and Excalibur to Issac/Felix and equip Garet with another Excalibur (if you got lucky, and apparently, you did) or the Dark Sword... with a Cleric's ring, of course...

Thanks everyone for your replies. It has helped a lot. Here's the story on the Sol Blades ...

I got my copy of GS:TLA used from EBGames. It was a great deal, still in the box with the map, booklet, for $20. When I started playing it and got to the part where Isaac and party joins up with me they came - all at Level 99! Needless to say I was quite surprised, and even more so when I saw the equipment they already had. Things like the Sol Blade, Excaliber, Cleric's Ring, Force Orb, etc.

One strange item is the Black Crystal. It says this "controls the ancient ship". Does anyone know what this means?

Here is the deal with the Darksword.
ATK +210
Here is Excalibur.
ATK+178

Excalibur can hit for a 3x multiplier (3x damage).
Darksword has the highest attack boost in the game (weapon).

These are the conditions which must be met to use the Darksword:

1. You MUST have a Cleric's Ring.
2. You are a Necromage.
3. If you are not a Necromage, you are a EPA user (Elemental Physical Attack - Planetary, Quickstrike, Call..)

Those are the only reasons why you want the Darksword over Excalibur. If you are at a high enough level where your charcter has 900+ attack, you may want to sue the Excalibur over the Darksword even if you are one of the above simply for a backup to rely on.

Elemental Physical Attacks use your attack stat to determine damage. Higher ATK = Higher Damage.

Personally, If you are level 80+ use Excalibur. If you are <60 use DS.

*Note: I was guessing ATK+ from memory.*

The black orb was used to control the ancient ship you used to get to Lemuria.

Thanks, Nick. Great info, as always. I'm following your armor/weapon/class setup from your ultimate setups thread, and I already made Piers a Necromage, so this should work well with him. Also he's only at level 41 right now, so the DS will be great for the time being (I'm keeping the Excaliber for when he levels up higher).

So now I should probably forge some dark matter and get him some awesome new armor to go with the DS. Any recommendations?

Umm. You want to increase his attack but still have decent defense.

Try:
Fear Helm
Riot Gloves
Terror Shield/Xylion Armor

All of those will increase attack and have very nice defense ratings too.

You WILL need the Cleric's Ring for a good Necromage.

Yeah it is anyway i prefer darksword for Piers and Excalibur for Isaac and Sol Blade for Felix

Not yet. I like this game so much that I went looking for the first Golden Sun, but that game is out of print. So I went to eBay and won the game in an auction, and it just arrived in the mail yesterday.
