You've probably already thought of this but I just got this idea while looking at a GS screenshot ^_^. It had what Isaac was saying with his portrait there. You could do something similar with GSW, and the portrait can be an image that we choose.

But then, that depends on how the chatting works. it might be an idea in some conversationg, but when you have lots of people it wuld be annoying.

Which brings up another question (we're just full of questions aren't we :)), what is the chat interface like in GSW? For 'overworld' talking (as in, walking around the town) I think having text above the head works best, but in massive convos, like a chat room (lol, unintensional, I assure you :o), it might be an idea to have an actual chat box come up with a format like a chatroom. A transparent white area in the corner might work, cause then you can still see any emotions a person uses, or a flashy looking box like the login part on the screenshot you showed us.

That's a really good idea, it would identify us more quickly than just a user name...

Just remembered, the method of chatting as seen on the trailer, would you be able to?

If you were to use the avater thing I suggested, it would be used with the way they had it in the trailer. Only it might fill up the screen too much. I just thought what you thought, that it would be a quick and easy way to identify who says what.

Usernames might be fine though. I guess we will know when we play it on Monday...

If we had to minimize them, I think I would be sad. There arne't a lot of avies you can eaisly change. But you can find plenty. Tiny avies are the most simple to find.

Neon, you guessed correctly on how the chatting system works. When you are anywhere except the Chat House, a text bubble appears above your character with the text. And when you are in the Chat House, there is a big chat box that takes up almost the entire screen and allows you to talk like on most other chat programs (AIM, MSN, etc).

About the chat. Are there action commands like /me and /slap???

What user levels will there be?

Will users be able to change the color of their message?

Will there be smilies?

Is there a max number of people that can chat?

Is there private chat (like whisper to {username})?

Will mods and admin be able to kick (and will there be a permanent ban from chat for abusive people)?

Will there be swear-word filter?

Will there be anti-shout (messages more than 70% capitals) system?

1) For the moment being, commands are only to be used by moderators and administrators. I assure you these will be available to normal users as well after the public test.

2) There are ten different user levels and out of those ten, the most common are: User, Moderator and Administrator

3) You will have smileys in the overworld chat, but they are not available in the chat-house

4) No limit has been set right now

5) There is no private chat yet, but this is also 100% sure to be implemented once we are done with the server test.

6) Yes, mods and admins are able to kick people out of the game in an instant. And yes again, we are also able to ban people. [This isn't limited to the chat only, this goes for the whole GSW]

7) There isn't a swear-word filter at the moment, mostly because people always find a work-around.

8) There will be no anti-shout.

I don't think so. Your name above your character is enough. If user profiles were created, you could put a display pic as well as other info there.
