Server Test Suggestion About when to open it

Will it be ok if the one-weekserver test will be opened one time a month? Just asking, I wont be sad if it idea is rejected.

only one test server no i say about a 2 week one.. ^_^

I think the 1-week format has worked pretty well for the two server tests we have had. I don't anticipate having another server test, but I can't say that for sure. Everything revolves around how much time I have to work on development.

It is possible; just keep the test version available for download while working on GSW in the background. There's no need to update the downloadable on every change, just on a major set of them. (And make sure everyone updates afterwards :rolleyes: That way, you could have a GSW Beta 1, 2, 3, RC1, etc...

musicman, the problem with that idea is that it actually does interfere with development. We only have one server, and it is only possible to be using it for development OR public use, not both. We cannot accurately test the server and fixes while other people are using it because that creates a mesh of different client versions, which further complicates things. We need to have the server silent for testing and the development of fixes and new features, and so we must keep the server closed.

Looking at it from another point of view, I don't really think there is much to hold people's interest in GSW's current iteration, so having it up is almost trivial. With the server allocated solely to development it allows us (AveneR and I) to focus on the work and not have to worry about interference, so we can focus on adding new features and really improving GSW as a whole.

i just wanna say that if we had a long trial there should be all the mini games and stuff
in short: more trials where there is everything rathert thenlong ones with not everything

I haven't tried any Test servers yet but it should have some more stuff then just a chat forum I can go to GAIAONLINE for that!!! :P and everyone keeps yelling at me saying that a battle system would be out of the question! :( I think That IF they got sponsored by someone or by "Camelot" just for funding they can hire some workers or If we all donated through Pay-Pal then the game server could get by faster I know I did small biz stuff like that before, :( I mean they are saying that they need programmers to help out and they need to Pay them so what better way then to get a sponsor! Just food for thought! :(

Neko, I wish everyone else was as open-minded as your are, but alas they are not. It is true that if we had money we could possibly hire additional, competent programmers. However, the biggest stumbling block for GSW is simply the lack of free time in Avener's and my own life. If we were receiving donations I think we would be more motivated, but at this point we are doing this project solely for ourselves and because we are passionate about it. Having people use it is almost just a welcome side-effect at this point.
