Yeah, I don't know what they did with the name; I prefer to call it just "Mario Tennis." I just bought it, played for a few hours, and now I'm addicted. It utilizes some new strategies, such as the Power Swings, but also stays true to the old N64 version. Graphics, sound, and gameplay are all awesome, and the intro movie is just plain funny.

But that's my opinion; go ahead and discuss. I'd prefer staying on the topic of the new game, but please, feel free to talk about the older ones as well. <_<

    (Waluigi pwns. :D)

I'm hoping that, like the new Mario Golf games, Camelot plans on a GBA installment that will sport connectivity with the GCN; they probably will. :D

MPT is gonna be a heck of a lot better than MT64/GBC ever was methinks. I demoed this one at EB Games earlier this week and I was impressed.

And forget Waluigi... go PEach! Technique > tricky

Actually, Waluigi isn't Technique anymore; he uses a new style, the "Defensive" style.

Waluigi? Yeah he's funny, but he's not the best! If someone is the best in Mario games, it's Mario! In Mario Golf Toadstool Tour Waluigi is pretty good. Mario is the best although I never use him, Diddy is the second best! So it would be too in Mario 'POWER' Tennis. I don't think Waluigi would be a fast or powerfull character... I don't see him play tennis or badminton anyway, he's so tall... Diddy would be great to play tennis because he's fast.

I really don't know. I mean, tournaments are 3 rounds, so they're pretty short, but, then again, there's a lot of other stuff for you to do; minigames, Gimmick tournaments, and whatnot.

It'll last for a while, in my opinion.

Its a big improvement to the other Mario tennis I can say that. Each character has a special move and its so easy to get started and become a pro at the game. Fast paced and lots of fun. More surprises and lots of other things to do in this game. Good pick up for GC if you got friends to play it with.

thats a big thing to reply to. Diddy is in it this time around, they just took the same characters from mario kart and golf to put in this one.

The opening is the worst part of the whole thing, its dumb as hell, mainly the last part. Cmon, mario is hittin bombs and gigantic bullet bills with a tennis racket. That is the single dumbest thing in history.

I suspect a seedling of the old Izar in you ...

... *clears throat* In any case, it may be dumb to you, but before you jump to flaming, I should say that it's pretty basic. You'd expect Mario to do stunts like that and live to tell about it. After all, he is a legend, but I agree that he can be overrated at times. I mean, if Mario did anything else right now, it'd be the end of Nintendo's "super star".

But still, this game is suspected to have a better game engine, with lots of new and unheard-of features. Who knows? If a similar but much more basic version of this gets on the upcoming DS, then Mario Tennis fever will start running through veins and interenet tabloids everywhere ...

... Or maybe I'm just overreacting.

                                    Bowser Jr. type: Tricky

Note: Waluigi is the only Defense character... There are much Power types... I will post the defensive and offense styles of playing for the characters soon! ^_^

I think it's a bit strange that Koopa is a Speed type. Turtles are slow creatures. And Yoshi is Speed too, I expected to have him All-around.

No, Waluigi used to be Tricky. The Defensive style is new; you're intended to be patient and return everything that comes at you, and wait for your opponent to make a mistake.

Hey, that doesn't mean that he can't still mess with other character's heads. -_-

His offensive power shot is VERY effective.

My favourite character in the N64 mario tennis game was Boo. His tricky shots always made it hard for my opponents to attack back.

didnt they move kinda wierdly though?

i always felt like i wasnt really in control...mind you i only used it a couples of times...maybe with practice that would have gotten better.

whats the character handling like in this one?

Really? I loved the old one very much. I like that you have the option to shut OFF the power shot feature, too; it's fun to use, but sometimes you just want an ordinary match.

I like how they have the whole Mario Sunshine scheme goin' on, too.

I mean, it's very Sunshine-esque. Some of the gimmick courts are inspired by Sunshine, you can see piantas (natives of Isle Delfino) cheering in the crowds in Peach's Court, and even the menu screen oozes Sunshine; with shine sprites and whatnot.
