An intruiging rumor has recently emerged regarding Nintendo's next home console, Revolution. According to a Japanese publication, the controller layout for Revolution will perhaps lack a Directional Pad and the A/B Buttons.

Speculate as you wish. Nintendo does plan on creating a new medium of gameplay (as the term "Revolution" suggests). Many have suggested that the controller may include Gyration technology.

I will provide direct links soon, but check out both IGN and N-Sider for more details.

Gyration... as in actually moving the controller itself for movement on screen? Sounds pretty innovative to me.

And people are saying that Nintendo is lacking innovation. BS.

It's creative alright, but how effective will it be?

Most of Nintendo's audience is young. They may not be able to effectively (and funly) do that.

Gyration technology is only rumored, but probable. Some have suggested this change will simply only mean that the controller for Revolution will have analog sticks replacing the D-pad and that the buttons will be assigned different letters/symbols.

But Nintendo has stated that Revolution will be more "intuitive", so in theory, whatever they're planning should be within the grasps of even the younger demographic.

It could also have a joystick style controller (A shaft with buttons on the side, etc).

Personally, Nintendo is smart when it comes to this stuff (look at the N64 and GCN controller) so I have faith in them.

And a new change is long overdue.

When I first heard about the D-Pad and the A and B Buttons being removed, I was like, "Do that, and your heads are gonna be ripped off by my teeth." It's long since been tradition with Nintendo that the D-Pad and the A and B Buttons be a function for every controller up until now. If Nintendo drops tradition, they'll be creating a big, unfurbished mess.

... In my opinion, anyway. *awaits for everyone to snipe him.*

Meh. So what if the buttons are going to be changed. As long as it's small and portable(As you all say) then it wont matter. Now I have my doubts that they will make a gyration controller and I wouldn't think it would be all that effective for certain types of games especially if your moving around your room just to make your character go in one direction. Creative maybe and it get you to actually move but like Nick said it may not be effective.

You never know. Maybe they're making a seperate controller with gyro technology (like the Wave Bird wireless controller), and the controller will be simplistic. But, if anything, just don't lose the D-Pad and the A and B Buttons.

The Mega-Drive almost only had A, B and a D-Pad (it had C, but that didn't do much) and the Master System before it had no C.

yea but the 64 controller was comfy, if you didn't need to use the d-pad

i like the analog sticks more then d-pads, jsut easier to move around. but that Gyration stuff sounds cool.

The D-Pad was miles from anywhere... Talk about useful.

I like gaming just the way it is. Except for graphics. MAKE BETTER GRAPHICS! Whichever system keeps conventonal controls and ups the graphics department will have my vote. Looks like Nintendo is looking away from modern gaming however. Nintendo has been a futuristic company too, though.

on that line of thought, computer owns in a way, well for the biggest style of games.
                              GUN GAMES, fps.

graphics are probably better, and the mouse and w,a,s,d are really good to use. and the chair is comfortable.
