Some of you might know me, others do not. Let me bring you up to date real quick: the main reason why GSW development was progressing really slow, is because Max and I both had a lot of things to do. I'm saying "had", for things are about to change. Max had a lot of school stuff to do (and ofcourse still has) and I was working at a game development company for the last 4 months. And let me tell you, a great 4 months those were. Time flies by quickly and I agreed to work there until the 24th of December 2004. Seeing as my internship days are now over, I can spend a little more time working on the Golden Sun World again.

And as a matter of fact, we already started working on it again. Max is completely rewriting the collision detection and walking methods, making sure our game is going to feel more like the original Golden Sun games by Camelot. I've had the liberty of seeing his new algorithm in action and I must say the results are satisfying to say the least.

Besides that, a couple of new commands are going to be introduced. One of them being the /mute <username> option. This allows you to block messages from a specific user so you won't see any of his or her speechbubbles. And by the way, if you can think of some other useful commands, don't hesitate to post them in the forum.

The interface will also be improved a bit and expect to see some real mini-games and items soon, which leads me to the fact that we're going to set up a new server test; we were able to add another server to our existing one (thanks to Max) balancing the load. The two servers are connected to eachother so you should be able to see anyone who's logged in. More information about the server test will be posted on the front page shortly.

I'd like to end this message by wishing everyone a happy new year!

Have a great 2005 and take care.

Excellent, great new command, AveneR! I'll definetly have to use that one.

It's good to know what's going on with GSW.

I owe it to GSW to land me here at GSSF. It's great to see it being worked on. :silence:

How about the /me <message> command? (/me says "hello" = musicman2059 (or the user's actual username) says "hello)

Why not add all the IRC / commands:

                  /me (mentioned above)
                  /ping username
                  /slap username
                  /kick channel username [reason]
                  /ban channel username [reason]
                  /whois username

There will be a server test real soon, you'll read all about it later on the front page.

Because quite frankly, most of them aren't going to convert well to our game. For instance, what should the "me" command do actually? In the GSW, you're already talking from a very 'personal' viewpoint, seeing as your own character is talking, hence making the "me" command a little weird.

Stuff like "ping" can be implemented ofcourse, but are people actually going to use it? It's a good debugging command though, so I'm probably going to implement it either way.

The "kick" command was already available in the very first server test, although only moderators and administrators have the ability to actually use this one. Which makes sense, since you can't own a room or house or whatever at this moment.

I'll also add "help" as an extra command so you can see a list of available stuff and how to use it.

Thanks for the tips so far, keep 'em coming!

The /me command would be good, at the moment there's no real way to describe your actions. People don't say there actions out loud, so the /me command could make the text appear without a speach bubble, and with the person's name in front.

kinda like *Neon hits AveneR* instead of (hits AveneR)

...that's meant to be a speach bubble btw -_-.

Well, GSW is an entirely different thing. That was more of, like, a battle game. This is more of a community based game; no battling in it at this stage, sorry.

Read the FAQ. That should tell you most of what you need to know, though it seems to be a bit old now :\.

GSW was(is) made from the ground up by Max and AveneR (If there were other people, I don't know them). WotA was part of GSA wasn't it? Made by different people.

I never played WotA, so I don't know exactly how different they are...

I don't really know what you mean by "flow" but the engine is very different. If I recall correctly, War of the Adepts has been developed in Visual Basic while Golden Sun World has been entirely created in Flash MX. We chose to go for Flash MX because in our opinion it offers greater contentcontrol, especially graphics-wise.

For the "flow" I meant like the graphics were sort of choppy in WotA. The Graphics in GSW are smoother. (Like when the speech bubbles pop up.)

It has been a little slow lately. Great to hear it's back on track. It's been too long since I played GSW.

WotA and GSW are entirely different. WotA was a game based on the GS battle engine. GSW is a community based game, using GS graphics and possibly ideas.

Unless somebody brought it back, WotA no longer exists. It was shut down ages ago.
