Hmm, I was reading that topic, I was... kinda... sad.
I do know a free IRC host.
    irc.quakenet.org
All you need is: someone with Q, 5 members with OP, and spend some time with the OPs (atleast more than an hour).

    :(

Also, although that mIRC isn't free, you can ChatZilla for your IRC client if you FireFox :D

and, you can chat with more than 1 person at a time, other than having all of these chat windows open, you can have ONE open with all these people WITHOUT bothering people by adding them to chats. :agitated:

Too bad that not everyone uses Firefox, so in the end, it proves pointless.

And too bad people arent that well educated on the Internet to use Google and find a IRC client. If you can hold on, I can find some for Windoze and Linux.

I disagree. If there are people here on GSSF, how come they know how to post and quote other people? They surely should be able to do other stuff than be here (like look on Google).

I'm not sure that you're well educated in manners, but that's my opinion.

I've used Xchat before and it's pretty easy to use and looks nice.

I just can't see this working. I'm on MSN all the time and surfing the internet too. I don't have time to be an Op and I doubt Max does either.

If you want to setup a GSSF IRC chat and be an operator for it, by all means go ahead. We might link it from the mainpage.

Oh, so if there's an IRC Chatroom, is Kite ganna be the person who manages it? I can trust him, he's a good internet friend of mine. I just hope Max approves of this idea.

But will there be enough people so there will always be people in the room? And aside from that we have GSW which is use for chatting so I think this is kind of piontless.

Yes, true. GSW will feature a chat house and in-game chatting.

I don't see the point right now.

Umm, may I ask how many of you that say its not a good idea ever tryed it? I use ChatZilla and its fun. IN IRC you can talk to almost all of your friends and not have it bleep up when your doing something : P

I've used Mirc to talk to over 20 people at the metroid2002 forums. I have tried it and it is fun but I would rather use GSW or Msn.

besides it better 2 have more people using the same program
instead of everyone other person use another program 2 chat
because then it would be pretty hard 2 actually know each other
and that wat else is better then play and talk?

Also there's the saying or whatever it is:

Hmm, the site could get a Java applet chat program, but I know nothing about Java applets or how they work.

See, what we're doing at GSAR is creating our own independant IRC chat channel and hosting the client on-site. Zach's been working on it, sprucing it up and whatnot, and hopefully it'll be completed soon. What it does is takes you to an embedded chat client made from Java (or Javascript, I don't remember), you log in, etc. You get the same functions as a normal IRC client too, which is nice.

I would think that once GSW is completed, an IRC chat could be thought about, but I don't see much point since you'd actually have GSW....

Like I said, it's nearing completion as far as I know.

                                                    Just use CGIIRC.

                                                    Its at cgiirc.sf.net I think.

After looking through that site (Thanks RoF) it could be a feesable request. I would be able to be an Op. in the channel if that is a problem and if Max can host it on GSS, then it should be ok.

I'll add it to my "things to do" list.
