Well, sometimes, I feel as Off Topic and Spam aren't the right place to post a topic that debates a certain subject, so can there be a Debate forum added to the Miscellaneous section?

if think Off Topic is the perfect place for debate topics. You can't have a forum for everything you know, sometimes you just have to mix things together. Plus, I doubt the debate forum would be very popular.

Off topic os more general discussion that debating etc.
A debate forum would separate serious discussion and (constructive) arguments from general chatter. And also people would know that topics in this forum are serious and if they are not up to mature discussion, can stay out of it and go to the spam forum. I say yes to this, though I extremely doubt it will ever happen.

I like the idea of a debate forum but I doubt serious discussion will ever happen. I know select members would love to debate serious topics, but I couldn't see it happening.

If you have a topic you want to debate (Serious topic mind you), create it in Off-topic with the subject in the title and the words "debate topic" under the title.

If someone doesn't treat that topic in the form of a debate topic (serious discussion with back up answers) then they will get warned.

That is all I can do right now.

that's true, if this is going to happen however, i suggest a subforum within the off-topics... :D
I remember when the first "world flaw" topic was made, that was successful but nowadays it'd just be filled with more spam.

like the religion topic you mean...i like the idea and would enjoy debating in such an area. If members can restrain themselves then it would work - i am however satisfied with N1P's suggestion and think that its the best way forward.

Do you people honestly think we would be able to come up with enough successful, serious topics to fil an entire forum?

Well, there's pollitics, musical taste, sexuality and relationships, and abortion just for starters. Then I'm sure there would be a few on religion, aswell as sports and even lifestyle choices.

yeah there's loads off stuff out there to discuss and it would bring in views from differnt cultures and parts of the world and such. We would just need enough people who were willing to debate well and make it work. Im sure there's enough people on the forum who care about such matters to achieve that.

It sounds like a good idea to me, but I think n1p's idea is best...I just know that when I'm trying to discuss something serious with facts and such, and someone comes in and says something like "you're wrong because it's stupid" or something, with no facts to back it up, it's extremely annoying and pointless...so yah, if we could somehow filter that out, that'd be good.
