I've heard some say elf, I've heard others say Hylian.

Point is, Link has pointed ears. Elves have pointed. Hylians have pointed ears.

So, what race is Link?

I'm going with Hylian, since in OoT the Deku Sprout tells Link he's Hylian. There are alot of opinions on this as I've come to see, though.

I put it here because I didn't think it was serious enough for Other Games. If a mod thinks it's okay for the Other Games Forum, go ahead and move it.

What is the difference between elf and Hylians? I think that just another name for elf. Even Zelda looks like a elf. Meh, I know nothing about Link and his history so I can't really vote. (null)

I'd say that Hylian would be a better term to describe him...as it does so in the game. The difference between elves and hylians still bugs me though...

Hylian because a elf has wings and magic power. Only his ears are elfish but many in TLOZ have those ears...

He's a human/hylian. The deku tree says so :!:.

Just Hylian. Even if he has elven ears, that doesn't mean some demons don't, but he isn't a demon, either.

Elves have wings in book Artemis Fowl (good). I think he is just Hylian with elvish ears.

I think he's a Hylian. Because the deku tree says so and he's "the boy without a fairy". All the other fairy's have an elf except Link. (Ocarina of Time)

Who said that Hylians were human? Who said there were elves? Seriously, the Deku tree says the guy is a hylian, and that could mean either or most likely, niether! That said, as Hylians have pointy ears they seem more elf like to me, so i went with elf.

I mean, if Nintendo wanted to create the image of a human, why on earth would they give him pointy ears? Everyone knows that elves are associated with that. And besides, playing the game as a human is IMO boring in comparism to being an elf.

EDIT - why was this put in spam? We could have had a pretty good discussion about it in other games...

Not funny ...

The whole "elf" race in The Legend of Zelda is particularly Hylian. To prove that, referring back to A Link to the Past, there were three Gods that created the land of Hyrule. Leaving a symbol of their power, they created the Triforce, and the reason the Hylians have pointy ears is so that they can "hear" the power of the Triforce, and they would more easily be able to find it and wish upon it in the Golden Land.

So you see, they aren't elves, and, like Ravenblade said, they aren't even human. In fact, they are their own unique race. So no matter how you look at it, they're rather different.

^agreed. I didn't know about the early Zelda history though so that was interesting. I still think that they were basically set up to be elves or at least "elf-like" as thats all part of the Fantasy genre. I always thought elves were cool too.

Hylian. I thought that was the whole point... all the elves have fairies, but link doesn't, because he's hylian. likewise, he can leave the forest, whereas the elves cannot? I'm working from memory here, as the last time I played ocarina of time was a couple of years ago at a friend's house (I don't have the game [or system, for that matter]).

Yeah but the Kokiris arent elves either...they're Kokiris. Nothing in the game claims to be an elf and so it seems logical to me that nothing in the game is an elf. By the same token nothing is human. I just happen to think he looks more the elf than the nhuman although both "species" are very similar.

Look at all the games though, he lives in a town with a king and zelda and people. (minish cap) and they are all humans, even his uncle? grandad? forgot. But they are all human so why would he be elf?

Who said they were all human? Seriously, its not said anywhere as far as i know. That being the case it would be more accurate to say that he is hylian but that Hylians are niether elves nor men. I just happen to want to believe he is an elf and so i will continue to do so as that is my preferred gaming experience XD

This poll claims Hylians to be men which there is no evidence for at all. I really just think that they must have based Hylians on elves (Although as i have stated, Link is a Hylian like you guys keep saying) I just dont see why they would have been given pointy ears if they werent meant to be more elf like than Humanlike.

Correct; he is Hylian, which should not be confused with either human or elf.

But I thought that some zelda games don't corraborate with others. some go buy different storie lines. And I could have sworn that he was elf in one. Or I could be completely wrong and you should just disregard my comments completly.

it would make more sense if he was Hylian but maybe a big plot twist in a up comming game could reverse the situation
