I know this idea is probably just a waste of your time, but, I'm going to try.

I was thinking, for the artwork section, maybe it could be renamed to just "Art", and it could have subforums, like drawings, graphics, music, and flash, possibly even sprites. Alot of people would like it, I hope, and, it would let people look at certains types of art, without going through the whole artwork section.

    Anyone like? Anyone??

Sounds like a good idea, if not practical, but it wouldn't really do anything solid for the matter ... but it's still a good idea.

        No.

We don't want to over-clutter the already cluttered forums.

I have half this place minimized on my forum settings anyway (namely, the GS sections and GSW). Believe me it puts many people off when they register and realize they are overwhelmed by like 15 topic sections to post in.

Subforums are always a bad move. Don't know why Invision implemented them in the first place to be honest. All they do is clutter the forums, confuse new users, and break up forums making you have to sift through multiple places to find topics, which is a hassle especially for 56k users.

          To quote Anubis:

Yeah subforums make it more difficult to find what you're looking for and generally just get in the way. It's fine as it is IMO.

Could you define 'clutter' for me?

Having multiple forums and/or topics, when you could have the same content in less forums and topics. I mean, would you like to have to look through 3 sub-forums inside the artwork forum, then 10 more topics, just to find what you were looking for? It's just easier for everyone to have less, and more general forums.

Well, not necessarily, Agatio. The whole point of having sub-forums is to organize topics based on a similar purpose. To better explain it, consider the situation you posed, but someone is specifically looking for Flash animations (for the sake of the example). All that member would need to do is to search through that specific sub-forum. This way, whatever topics he looks through would be what he is looking for.

I can't see how it would make things difficult to search through, as it should achieve the opposite. I can see, however, that it might be a little unnecessary, but it certainly would not hurt.

People forget the art forum doesn't just apply to visual art... It's any type, reading, visual, and all that stuff... Or as Nick explained. But anyways, having sub forums kinda makes it look a bit clutetered, good Idea though.

I say no, but in the end I really don't care as I don't visit that forum.
I vote no for the benefit of the people who do frequently go there, expecially 56k'ers.

I think that is a good idea. It would be cool to think "I want to see flash stuff" or "I want to see sprites". That would b a great idea.

But if people just state what kind of art they're doing in their topic title perhaps...I mean I can see the advantages but then at the same time Agatios point about clutter is probably the deciding factor.

I like this idea. Someone had a similar idea that I like, but this one is much better than that one.

Well, yes, I think its a good idea, because it'll be easier to find the type of art your looking for. And SubForums can be pretty useful, thery're just not used so much.
