    http://desktop.google.com/
Downloaded this around an hour ago, and it's half way through indexing my computer. Basically it's like a regular google search, except it searches your computer, for anything. Music, documents, images anything. Fantastic, give it a look.

I don't think I need it, I got a search, lol. But I heard it's fast and realable, so maybe I'll get it some other time.

Control + S on the desktop. It has the same effect. And if you're losing things on your computer and don't know where they would be, you need to throw your computer out your window.

Windows Search Function gets the job done.

I found the windows search to be slow and nopt get the results, this new search is faster, and finds more things in my opinion.

It's only slow if your computer is slow, And I downloaded it, and they both do the same thing. I'm deleting it.

Or it could be slow because of the amount of files, it's not rocket science. Google search indexed my entire computer (meaning every file), so now results come a whole lot faster, it can also search pages viewed in your cache (very useful).

Well, I don't regularly use the search, I remember where stuff is most of the time. Sometimes I will forget, and I wont nee anything faster.

I could actually benefit from this..A LOT.

I'm actually someone who looses stuff in her computer all the time x.x; It's mostly because I do everything too fast and multi-task too much so, stuff always ends up in the wrong place.

Ha, I muti-task like crazy. I have about 3 sites open, Wacraft 3: Frozen Throne World Editor, Paint Shop Pro and Music. :) I can't see how I could loose something... I guess Google could help, but I rarely loose things, so...

Meh, it's not worth it IMO. If you need to search for files frequently, quit being lazy and do some spring cleaning on your PC. Get rid of old crap you seldom use and do a serious reorganization of your files.

Besides, when Microsoft releases the WinFS filesystem, Google Desktop Search will become obsolete.

Hey, getting this doesn't mean your lazy. Sometimes it means you just loose things easier than most others. Please don't call people lazy again. Thanks! :)

You wouldn't believe the amount of crap I delete from my computer everyday. Deleting in my computer means organizing; and I STILL lose stuff.

@Tachyon, some people just have a lot of files, and indexing them with this new search and typing in keywords is a great way to find a lost file.

Manual indexing works quite well too. I have over 150 gigs of stuff, the vast majority of which are files below 5 megs, and I almost never search, because everything is layed out is a neat, organized manner. Pretty much the polar opposite of my desk and notebooks.

Edit: Upon reading my last sentence, it seems like something's gotta give way when you try to organize. So meh, whatever.

I keep all my files very, very well organised, and do a cleanup of my comp once a week, but it's still handy, if you do happen to lose something, so have Google desktop search available in the taskbar for quick access, now, back on topic...
