When that happened to me I just made the new profile and re-added my favorites. That might be what you have to do unless omeone here knows how to fix it.

I get that but i had a fair few favorites, don't even know where i found half of them.

Does anyone know what causes it?

Yes, you already have an instance of Firefox running, and so it gets confused. If you log out of Windows and log back in you should be able to use the default profile again.

Argh, that happened to me too x.x; Restarting didn't work so, I had to do a System Restore.

Go into the task manager (right click taskbar, select from menu), click the 'Processes' tab, kill the Firefox.exe process (right click, Kill Process). No need to log out.

I've been trying to change my homepage, with FireFox, but it's not working.
