    Tell me...is verizon DSL slow(if u have it) cause they say on commercials and on our internet service its supposed to go about 170kb/sec but sure it did that for the first week, now for a few months I have been dealing with this: I was thinking is this dialup going a little faster O_O;;

      Ouch. Are you using WiFi to connect to a router, or are you directly plugged into a router/into the wall?

          Unplug your modem and router, let it sit for 5 minutes, and plug it back in. If you are still having problems, and the computer directly connected is still going slow, call them - it's most likely their problem and either a wire in the ground got knocked or they're doing work on a wire/server maintenance.

              I think you just might be in a bad area/neighboorhood. Cable internet can have the same problem, where you get drastically lower speeds for some unexplained reason in certain areas. I have Comcast and love it, but my friend's Comcast was unbearably slow like your DSL is, so he switched to Verizon and it is fast for him. So it's just a matter of location and how many people use it in your immediate neighborhood.

                I have a similar problem. I got Shaw High-Speed Lite, (Direct connection) and it takes me 13kbps.

                      I don't think it's just a matter of connection. All over the world, no matter where you are, some days after installing the DSL, the speeds start to lower "automatically". I'm not talking aobut bugs, or cookies, or anything like that, but I know there's something. When I had my PC's second hard drive corrupted, and had to reinstall WinXP, on the same day, I noticed that in the morning it was going to slow, but when I reinstalled everything, Windows, programs, DSL included, it was 10x faster, at least. And I didn't have bugs, or cookies on my PC, I empty the cookie folder everyday, and never had bugs (but I still scan everyday) and the WinXP Service Pack 2 Firewall was updated. There's somethin else, but leave it to the PC engineers. Go figure...

                        Happened to me too, they told me I get 256KB/s but on IE I download at 50-70 (Rarely 90)KB/s and P2P 25KB/s.

                        Why are they such ripoffs?

                          Seriously, IE is slow as hell and will cripple your internet speeds. Don't use it.

                          Dark: That deals with how much crap got loaded up onto your PC or into your browser cache. You should consider running spyware/adware scans, and clean out your cookies, cache, and saved info. Oh, and don't use IE!

                            Had I mentioned I empty my T.I.Files and Cookie folder and that I run the worm scan everyday and it's negative? I had? Yup.

                            I use IE, though - mercy, please!
                            I know Firefox is so much better, but I always tend to get "scared" when I change from my must trusted program to one I don't know about - And you don't need to answer, because I know the answer is something like "Then don't trust programs like IE", but you're right :o

                                Dark: You said cookies, that doesn't mean your temp. internet folders, and IE never gets rid of all of the cache. It simply doesn't. Also, IE tends to have issues when the cache fills up.

                                Go get a trial version of Window Washer by Webroot and let it clean up the crap on your computer. It works very well.

                                  Don't forget, you can use the Defragmenter and Disk Clean up for good measure.

                                    Disk cleanup will be pointless if you use Window Washer, and defragging is barely tied into a web browsers speed. It'll speed up your PC and how fast it opens files, but otherwise, it shouldn't be affecting the internet so negatively.
