    A possible MSN-AOL partnership has been getting lots of press coverage the past couple of hours. Some anonymous sources claim talks are preliminary, other consider them advanced. Exactly which businesses or technologies the two companies will merge is not known at this time, but the move would help them better compete against Google and Yahoo!.

    One source, Associated Press, refers to collaborating on search technology, online advertising... and Instant Messaging technologies! Contrary to the European market, AOL Instant Messenger is far more popular in the U.S. than MSN Messenger. It makes sense if they'd try to merge both userbases at some point, but a fuse of the MSN Messenger and AIM software sounds like a monster to me!

    One word for you MSN; no.

        o.o This is horrible.

        IMO:
        MSN = The best one.
        AOL = The worst one.

        Although, AOL has one or two things that MSN could use... but I dunno x.x; I still don't like the sound of it.

            MSN, despite being owned by Microsoft, is a far better chat client (this is all that I care about concerning the merge), and AIM sucks arse. Please don't merge.

              Overall, in my case, AOL sucks big time. Everything about it disgusts me to no end (I used to be an AOL user myself, and was very disatisfied).

              I have to agree that MSN Messenger is, by far, the best instant messenger program out there, with tons of features and customization properties. Whilst AIM is more of the popular type of messenger--albeit to those that dwell more often in the real world (preppies and the sort)--it still doesn't match up to the standards of MSN.

              If MSN and AOL ever did merge, I'd never forgive Microsoft for implementing such an idiotic idea. They'd then probably fuse Windows technology with AOL programs and make it seem virtually impossible to get rid of. Thus, it would've gone way too far ...

              EDIT: Then again, didn't Windows split with Microsoft a while back?

                    MSN could buy AOL for pete's sake! It's Microsoft! Anyways, why would they share tech on their messengers when MSN is far superior. I think they should just stay enemies, this merging thing is getting old fast.

                      I use it solely cause of that o.o; Not ALL of my friends use it but, a great majority.

                      The ones who use MSN think AOL sucks. And vice versa.

                            Well, I'm just reciting what I heard on the news and long time ago. It was during some kind of controversy between Microsoft and its software developers.

                            Google for it. Maybe it'll pop up?

                                  AIM is for people who suck at the internet. It's seriously for people who have no idea what they're doing.

                                  MSN is more sophisticated, and highly preferable.

                                  I do know a lot of people who use AIM and want to chat with me, I say "screw you, get MSN or we ain't talkin." And either they want to talk with me enough to download MSN (all 30 seconds of their life gone) or I never hear from them again.

                                    Anyone who actually knows what they're doing knows MSN kicks AIM's butt at ANYTHING. But Microsoft doesn't really care about that, all they really want is the money, and seeing as how AIM is more widely used than MSN (Supposedly), some kind of partnership would be somewhat beneficial to them. The userbase wouldn't be so ha[[y though.

                                      The good of this happening:

                                      • I'll finally not have to log onto MSN and AIM to talk, I'll just have to log onto one program. (I know there is another program that can do this but w/e)
                                      • I'll finally not have to say "AIM SUCKS, GOD, OPEN YOUR EYES AND GET MSN!!" to my fellow students at school, since AIM and MSN won't exist. XP

                                      The bad:

                                      • Since AIM is stupid and MSN is great, combining the two might lower the quality MSN had.
                                      • Doesn't AIM have spyware and adware?

                                          Ah, AIM Bashing, I know alot of people here do use it. :P

                                          I have AIM and MSN, but I don't like AIM that much. And AOL its self is a virus, well, that's kinda my opinion. A Few of my firends use both, So I don't really care too much either way, since I don't sue any of the special features on any chat program really.
