    Green Day is one of my favorite bands. Although they have moved away from punk, and arguably away from pop punk, they're still one of my favorite bands. American Idiot was pretty good, though not up to par with Dookie and Nimrod. My favorite songs are;

    1. St. Jimmy- Fast, upbeat, kickass.
    2. Welcome to Paradise- See above.
    3. Longview- Boredom induced fapping. Nuff said.
    4. Nice Guys Finish Last- Awsome video
    5. Wake me Up When September Ends- This song really speaks to me.

There's a music discussion thread, a what are you listening to thread, as well as some other misc. music topics, use them if you want to talk about a specific band, stuff like this would normally get closed upon sight.

      But if it stays open...

I'm one of the few true Green Day fans, unlike the millions of people who claim to be fans based upon the American Idiot album. I own all the albums minus Bullet in a Bible and Shenanigans (is it worthy buying?). Favourite songs are 'Basket Case', 'Stuck with Me', 'Welcome to Paradise', 'She', and 'Grouch'.

Same here. I like their music, but I'm not gonna go out and say they're bigger than Jesus or anything. They're alright.

I agree, they aren't that great live. I thought that frankly, they kinda sucked at Live 8.

A live band can be very good. As long as they themselves are good musicians, and they are miced up well etc. they can sound awesome. And the thrill of seeing them live is better than listening to them on CD.

it's only the thrill of seeing them in person that attracts me to concerts, i suppose the atmosphere would be great to

I'm not dissing live concerts, I'm only dissing Green Day live. Some bands are awesome live, because they are talented musicians and vocal artists.

Anyways, I saw Bullet In A Bible, and I loved 'King For A Day' and 'Are We The Waiting' along with 'Hitchin' A Ride'. I lost my voice completely from screaming in my friend's house cause we were watching it x.x I also waved her Green Day calender >) Things can get pretty ugly if I don't have a daily dose of Green Day~

I saw Green Day shortly before 'Warning' was released. That's when they were at their prime in my opinion. No political bull****, none of the 'new' fans. Just straight out Green Day playing what they used to play.

Dookie, Insomniad and Nimrod is the best Green Day. Slappy Hours and Kerplunk are good, but due the amateurity (that can't be a real word) of the songwriting and recording, it's not in the same league as the subsequent releases.

The only real problem I have with the "new" Green Day is that it's so frikkin' popular. I have no problem with popular music, but there's a point where it gets annoying when EVERYBODY loves the same music.

Otherwise, I prefer Green Day's new songs to the old songs. Billy Joe's singing voice has improved so much...

I can't name more than 5 songs of Green Day, myself. XD

Well, let's see, Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Brain Stew, Time Of Your Life...

But anyway. I wouldn't consider me a fan, but I do like their songs alot. Particularly the ones listed above. Time Of Your Life is a rather easy-going song, so it's nice to listen to when I'm reading or what-not.

just because American Idiot has a political undertone and attracted new fans to a band who to be honest needed them doesn't make it a bad album, it's one of few of their albums that has a theme of rebellion like punk bands are supposed, yes there old stuff is better but the new stuff is damn good too

It is a very good album. The lyrics are intelligent, the songs are written well, the production quality is top notch, and they all sing and play very well. It's only because half the songs are on the radio a hundred times a day that I get put off playing it.

Oh my god, that there is exactly why I sort of like Green Day and are not huge fans. You turn on the radio, and there is at least a 60% chance that the song you're listening to is Green Day (or Kelly Clarkson). It kind of turns you off from them, I agree.

                                                                                  Now, sarcasm aside, why?

They have an impressive catlogue of albums, are good performers live, they were one of the first pop punk bands around, and the have covered the genre very extensively. True, their latest album has brought them a lot more success than the previous, and are in a sense worthy of being called sell-outs, but that's no reason to hate them.

They make good music and have been doing it for a lot longer than Anberlin who only formed a couple of years ago.
