    IGN Gear
    CNET

Certainly, there are other resources you could refer to, but the two above should, at the very least, provide you with enough preliminary information to intrigue you.

And on that note, I'll just state some of the information here, for those unwilling to click on the above:

    - The latest from CES (Consumer Electronics' Show) 2006 is this new screen technology developed by Toshiba, co-developed by Canon, set to debut by the end of 2006
    - SED sets utilize electron emitters for each color pixel, causing red, green, or blue phosphors to "glow"
    - The technology in the Toshiba models displayed at CES 2006 allowed for a contrast ratio of 10,000:1, while the average plasma screen generates only 3,000:1... and the SED models are prototypes
    - The SEDs are expected to have a refresh rate of 1 millisecond, easily putting CRT models to their paces. And the initial contrast ratio is expected to be 100,000:1

Fairly impressive. Of course, my summary does not do it justice, so try the links above for more information.

Hey, I read about these in a science magazine. They do seem rather promising, but odds are they won't come cheap. *adds to mental wishlist*

Seems promising, let's hope the prices for these kind of televisions don't go way overpriced. Some types of TV's right now (LED's, Plasma) are way over-priced IMO.

Toasty, what is it with you and reviving topics? You're going to get in trouble one day, you know that?

What do you mean 'reviving topics' ?

Reviving topics is taking old topics and bringing them back to life. I wouldn't really call this 'reviving' because it wasn't that old.

Yes, I agree. However, I can see where you were coming from Sea of Time, so nicely done.

Going back on topic, the SED really has potential. All the prototype models that were shown outperformed the best currently available television screens, and with only one-tenth of its final contrast ratio and no 720p/1080i/1080p (HD). When it is released, it should really drive forward the growing standard of High Definition television.
