This game is going to be a hit; it just has to be. Allow me to explain. The concept of the game is fairly simple. You control the 'katamari', a giant ball which sticks to almost anything it touches, so long as it isn't too large. You have to manoevre the katamari through the various levels, picking up as many things as possible. At the beginning of the game, you'll be collecting small objects like sticks and pieces of garbage. As the katamari grows in size however, you'll be sticking to trees, buildings, and even mountains. Eventually you end up with a colossal ball of junk, like this:

    http://www.gamecritics.com/review/katamari/screen01.jpg

The plot behind the story is rather odd, really. The King of the Cosmos, in some sort of drunken rampage, has destroyed all the stars in the sky. So he calls upon his son, the prince, the help him replace those stars. Before each level starts, the king gives you a set time limit in which to create a katamari of sufficient size, before blasting it into the sky to replace a lost star. I don't know about you guys, but in my opinion, this game is pure gold. If it ever comes out in English, there ain't nothing stopping me from forking over that $20 note. What's more, there's even a sequel, appropriately titled: 'We Love Katamari'. <_<

Haha... Sounds great. It's a good idea, but I think it might get a bit boring after a short while of playing...

What is it being released for?

I know it's on PS2. I'm not sure about other consoles.
The first game never came out anywhere other than Japan but the sequel is available everywhere. We bought We love Katarami about a week ago and it's brilliant. It's a simple idea but it's so addictive. One level starts with you picking up things like pizza and by the end you've rolled entire islands up.
It's good but the game is really weird. I'm still trying to decide if I like the weirdness or not. I don't like the length though. You're only given a few missions and they don't last long. That doesn't stop it being so good though.

I've seen a lot of great things for this game. G4TV gave this game "Most Original" last year.

Well there definitely isn't a game like it. It's a really original idea.

Odama is coming out later this year. It's a game made by Nintendo that combines ancient Japanese warfare with pinball. That sounds pretty original too.

I've only ever played two pinball games which I actually enjoyed playing. Firstly, Pokemon Pinball, and secondly, a CD I won in some competition, titled ULTRA 3D PINBALL. It's friggin' awesome, considering how old the graphics are.

I used to like Pokemon Pinball as well. Better get back on topic though...
So how many other people have bought this game then?

The original game isn't in English but the sequel is. Maybe I should have said the sequel when I asked the question.

Weird that you say that. In one level you roll a snowball around to make a head for a snowman.

Seriously? Wow! But this game looks to be more original than pikmin, which is some achievment, as pikmin got the most original game of the year award in 2003. Is there any actaul plot to the second one, as the first one seems to be about creating new stars.

This game isn't just original as in a new idea. It's also a bit weird. The king scares me to a level no game character has before.

I guess the fact that it's hard to find and the fact that not many people on a Nintendo forum will have a Sony system makes it very limiting as to how many people will actually have this game.
