[Someone Else]

Since everyone wants their own room, and they want people to be able to visit your room, I just thought of a way we could do it.

First off, I'm basing this off of ACWW. Okay, so lets say we have an inn in the town. When you go inside you see this NPC behind a reception desk. You talk to the NPC and initiate dialogue, and you say you want to create a new room. You're simply asked your rooms "name", (like your town's name in ACWW) pay some gold, and you're good to go to customize your room (customization is left up to what Max and AveneR can do with Flash...). When you wish to leave your room, you have to initiate dialogue with the door in the southern side of your room. You have two options: Leave the room, or "Open" your room. When I say "Open" your room, I mean it as in how you can open your town gates in ACWW. When you "Open" your room, you're asked a password to set for your room, and then wait around your room for people to come visit. Assuming that we'll be able to Private Message people in GSW, you can "invite" people that way.

So how does visiting work? Well, you can talk to the NPC behind the reception desk and say you want to visit someone's room. A menu pops-up in the form of a roster of all the different rooms that are open. This is where the name of your room is used, like in ACWW. You select a room, key in the room's set password, and you're free to visit the player in his/her room.

As a note, you can only have one room. When you've already created a room, all you have to do is talk to the NPC again and say you want to enter your room.

This system reminds me of Habbo Hotel. If we have the option of player-owned-houses, we should have it like that.

I think the rooms should allow you to set a carpet, which would be any perfect square image on the internet, and you basically set what the URL is for the image, and it would appear as your room's carpet/floor. It wouldn't require any more ram or anything than uploading the maps for GSW, right?

Also, a few furniture items would be nice, but I think it should be a set limit of four, and you'd choose what you want for each.

Bed: Cot/Hay/Bunk
Seating: Chair/Bench/Sofa
Lighting: Torch/Lamp/None
Accessorie: Pot/Chest/Sword bin

Of course, it would be more diverse than that, but you get the picture. Everyone's room would have four items and a carpet, but it would be up to you to change them from the default...for a price, of course.

The houses in the GS games are a lot more complex than just a bed, a chair, a lamp and a pot.

Yes, this is something on our feature list, and our initial implementation idea was very similar to yours, WD. I'm not sure if I will have this for the beta, but I am going to try very hard to. I don't know if allowing random images from URLs to be used in rooms, but there will surely be some level of customization.

Also, Spilt is right, the GS houses are more complex than just 4 item and a carpet and thus, I think there should be more than four kinds available.

And there should be the options of choosing a premade room, you know, just the shape/style of room, and then a choice of a custom room, you make the design/layout yourself, although with restrictions on area. And they would be just bare rooms with nothing in them, except for the walls and/or pillars in the room, nothing else yet, you would do thaat after you chose/made your room.

For the overworld sprites, I can rip them, I think I still have some data of GS somewhere. Star Magician, Valukar, Sentinel, Doom Dragon, Dullahan, they're all easy to find.

For clarification, Basically you have your house. Then next to the house you have a small sprite. that can be dog, cat, djinn, dullahan, deadbeard, kraken, kraden... etc.

You're getting ahead of yourself there, GSW isn't an RPG or an MMORPG. The most realistic idea would be to buy pets or win them in a competition.

I encourage you all to continue discussing this, as we haven't really thought it out ourselves. At this point, my best guess is that we would probably offer a pre-set list of blank room maps that would allow you to place beds, bookcases, tables, rugs, barrels, etc. how you want them around the room. This "pets"/"dolls" idea is actually not too bad, though I'd have to think of the appropriate way to make that fit into the GS visual style.

There is going to be a cap on the number of people logged into GSW at any one time (depends on how much money we can raise, look for more info on that as the beta approaches), so that shouldn't be an issue. And we should be able to have near infinite number of private rooms, since we won't have typical doors to enter them.

Mabey even a series of towns like in Rune Scape. As for the apartments, since you would talk to the NPC to change the single door of the 'apartments' to yours, there wouldn't be a lack of rooms. There should be shops that sell souvineers for the apartment's, and IF there is a battle arena, there should be weapon shops too :P You earn money from winning battles or contests, then spend it on souvineers or weapons.

I have a few things to say to this:

10 TIMES THE SIZE!?!?!?! Isn't that a bit too big...

Thousands of players? Well, that would be cool, but do that many people know about this?

Max already said that one day he would be adding more towns... Didn't he?

And about the shops that sell souvenirs: That one is a must if there even will be decorating your apartment.

GSW is not an MMORPG! Don't think of it like RuneScape.

I can't speak for Max but I think he intends to implement different town by having sub-servers? Kinda like Channels in Maple Story I think. Or something. But with the way that GSW's set up, it wouldn't be too hard to just have a tiny road seperating two towns.

For the record, GSW got around 30-50 player accounts or something like that. Not to shabby considering it's a fairly quiet project, although it was announced all over the GS community with sites like GSR, GSAR (when it was alive) and Venus and Jupiter Lighthouse.

Let me clear up this question about town size: The way we have envisioned it, we will initially have one main town, and over time (as more users register) will add new towns which can be reached via a teleporter (think teleport pads from TLA). Keep in mind that there are many houses in each city, so there are plenty of places for people to go to and do things.

As will be announced in a month or two, there will initially be a limit to how many people can be online at once until we can raise some money to up the limit. But don't worry about that for now, I'll handle that when the time comes.

Hm, I hadn't really even thought about using a boat as transportation between the towns. Though there is a fine balance between fun and convienance. I would personally find it pretty annoying after awhile to have to sit through a boat trip animation every time I wanted to switch between cities. With teleportation we would probably have some kind of "refresh" time before you can use it again.

I was thinking along the lines of a quick boat trip like you pay to enter, you climb aboard, enter the cabin, and then you'll be "teleported" to the same ship graphic in a different town. Sorta like a Metroline. this could be used for only trans-continental stuff. Dealing with the topic, shops/apartments can be placed easier in small roads and routes that link towns together.

With the boat animation, it doesn't have to be very long; take for example LeafGreen/FireRed. It only lasts for about 1-2 seconds.

Or, you could have a boat trip between some towns (if there ends up being that many), and a walking path between others. All towns would have a teleporter pad. And for the boat trip, mabey you could have lemurian boats that you could rent for free. You just talk to an NPC, then climb into a boat, and travel to the town you wanted to go to. You would of course have to make a map of the GSW "world" for that, but it would eliminate the waiting time between boat rides.

And I wasn't thinking of GSW becoming an MMORPG. I was just thinking of there being a handful of towns. I had to compare that to something similar so as to give a better idea. I wasn't thinking of it turning into an MMORPG like Runescape. I said that in my post.

But to give the towns more uniquewity besides a design variation, each town sould have there own game. All towns would have games like the Super luky dice, and the luky dice, but on top of that there could be a different game just for that town. If there were mazes, then mabey a different maze for each town. IF there was a colosso (which would be awesome) then each town should have one so as to keep a balance of people between towns. I emphasize IF in that last sentence.

Well, it could be slightly based on it, though the apartments would be GS style, and the movement and graphics would be GS style, but the system for how you decorate & store things would be the same. Not to mention if for some reason you need to rest, you could rest in your room. That would be my addition. I'm sure I'll think of more later.

I thought the secret bases were a great addition. And they were there just for fun. Good ol' plain fun. That's what games are for, the last time I checked...

Anyway, being able to rest in your room is a good idea. But er... What would it actually do? Since we don't have HP to regain, what would be the point in that?

Let's stay on topic people. I know the Secret Bases are a similar concept, but keep discussion to comparisons please.

MD, if you look at the Features page on the GSW site you will see that we intend to have a bank which will handle money storage and distribution.

Likewise, we will have a private message system of some kind, though I'm not sure how we might best do that (just through the IM system or through some kind of post office).

Private Messages should be, well, private. Going to a post office makes it obvious that you were going to write a PM to anyone who saw you going there. Not that most people would find it very interesting, but there are some pretty nosy people. :D

I think PMs should be like the PM system we have here, more of an e-mail sort of thing rather than a live IM. Although Private IMs would be cool, but I think discussing things privately in rooms works better and also takes alot less work on your part. Maybe we can have the option of "borrowing" one of the chat rooms at the Chat House we had in the server test? (I can't really remember much about the Chat House; it's been too long)

How about this: You can write the letter anywhere, but can only send it at the psot office, considering Max's approach. It could also mean that you could be checking your mail through the Post Office, for the record.

The Chat house was pretty good. If that could be cahnged into The Common Room, tha'd be a "welcoming" theme...

It's an online GS community which functions like one at the moment. Max aspires to make it as much like GS as possible, as if living in that world, hence Golden Sun World.

What he means is that you will have a sort of e-mail, or PM system. You could check your ' inbox' when your in your room.

is it just me or after reading over all these posts does it seem we are making more of a big deal about these "private rooms" then we are the game as a whole... Great idea, but we should maybe concentrate on some other things and take a break from this grand scheme.
