Yep, the Victorian government is banning all high sugar soft drinks from being sold in canteens, and all public schools have until the end of May to do so. It's their attempt to combat child obesity, apparently, and that the only drink students should need is water. Luckily I go to a private school, although schools of this sort are also being encouraged to incorperate the ban. Let's hope for the best. -_-

Meh, my school never sold soft drink and everyone is frankly a lot healthier.

It's not that bad. They are only doing it in public schools, and even then, only on FRIDAY. It's not going to work though.

It's a good thing I'm not of those sugar-junkies. My consumption of soft drinks is at a rate of about 375 ml per month.

              And people care... Why?
If you love soft drink so much, you probably should walk the 200 metres extra in the morning to buy it from a super-market or something.. Cause you're probably a fatty..
              Mwahahaha! Me? Powerade! Oh yeeeeeeeaah!

Oh, yeah, and Powerade is a whole lot better for you. -_- Our province banned soft drinks in elementary schools, but they still sell them at high schools, so we can still get them. I admit, I have a lot of them, but I'm not fat, and I'm not getting fatter, so who cares?

It's not a big deal. Though, it confuses me how they link soft drinks to child obesity. I mean, if they were looking to combat that, why not ban chocolate milk? One day I read that 500mL of chocolate milk has more calories than 500mL of coke.

I think that with this whole child obesity thing, people have forgotten that not everyone has the same metabolism. Some, like me, are lucky enough to be able to eat lots and not show it, while others don't eat much and are still obese.

I drink soft drinks all the time. And when I say all the time I mean ALL THE TIME. And I'm not even close to fat. People actually keep telling me that I should put on some weight.

But I don't think banning these drinks in schools is so disastrous. Just buy a bottle before school and hide it in your jacket or something! Just as Diddy said, nobody can stop you.

My school stopped serving soft drinks in the cafeteria years ago. The only vending machines with soda are locked up in the school store, which is open like 45 minutes a day. It kinda sucks, but I prefer milk anyway.

I think a better idea would be to introduce a parental consent form for the selling of these drinks to students, since they of all people probably know what's best for their kids.

It's not like it's illegal for you to drink a soft drink in school. You just can't buy them at your school. They're just trying to make it difficult to get your hands on it. If you buy them somewhere else nobody will care if you come to school with them.

That's a bit of an understatement. Fast food is the problem but parents are just letting their kids eat it! If parents make the effort, maybe the governments wouldn't have to be involved.

I was actually wondering the same thing. Anyways, why don't you just start drinking water and milk Spit? I mean, it may sound impossible and awful, but you can get used to it. AND they're healthier.

I really don't think Sunkist and Solo are soft drinks. Sunkist is... juice... and Solo is some sort of energy drink.

Ah McDonalds, the source of all things healthy for children growing up. Seriously, McDonalds is way worse than buying soft drinks at school. If kids are just going to go eat somewhere where they're getting fatter than they would be at school, why ban soft drinks? You're basically promoting fat kids now...

Actually, Big M does not mean McDonald's, it's actually a brand of flavoured milk which comes in little milk cartons. You can get chocolate, strawberry, banana, caramel, ice coffee, blueberry and honeycomb. They're very popular in my area.

We used to have a brand of milk like that, but it was called 'insane cow' 'chocolate insanity' it was actually pretty good, but I havn't seen it around in a while. They haven't banned anything from here yet. Except supersized fries a McDonalds. But that happened everywhere in the world right? That being said, I'm lucky 'cause I've got a high metabolism. I eat unhealthy things 4 to 7 times a week, and I'm only like 1/2 a pound overweight.
