Right, so I mastered the E and A major chords. Now I'm going to practice getting the hand placed perfectly for the D major chord.... But it's frustrating as all get out. Can anyone here give me some pointers on learning? I know it's all practice, practice, practice, but do you guys that play guitar have any little techniques that I could use? I keep getting the 2nd string pressed down when I try the D major chord, so it sounds like crap....
I'm learning on an acoustic 6-string, by the way....

Best thing to buy is a chord book. It will tell you all the chords you can play.
Also if you can, get a teacher because it makes a difference, believe me
I think your problem might be is that you're curling your thumb over the fret board. Don't to that otherwise you'll get finger fatigue and it doesn't allow fast movement. Just put the thumb on the back of the fret board. Apparently I've heard it's good to have you second finger in around the same region as your thumb, sorta like a magnet. Never really bothered with that but hey try it.
And the probably the most important thing is to REEELLAAAXX. Nobody can play anything well if tensed up ;)
hope that helps
@ wifle- it's cuz we're one big happy family

I played guitar. But I sucked at chords so I really can't help you. ^^;; Solo's were my thing, chords were not.
So I play bass now. No chords. xD

WD Advice:
Join a class/get a tutor/get SOME kind of teacher. Even if it's your older sister who knows how to play.
My sister goes to classes and she seems to have a natural talent for guitar. I learned how to play notes with ease within one day of instruction from her. This summer, I'm going to start getting lessons from her teacher. ;D
