I had all four of mine removed last summer. Actually, the top wisdom teeth are removed relatively easily (I had both taken out in one day), but the bottom ones are a pain. The surgery for each one took over an hour and half (perhaps more), and it runs the case of being embedded in the jaw bone.
If that happens, as was the case with me, they will (literally) drill and cut a piece of your jaw bone off. Then, they proceed to remove the wisdom tooth by splicing it into two. All this, by the way, requires massive amounts of anestesia. Expect to take more than usual (I had five injections of anestesia by needle, and even then there was still a little sharp pain and plenty of discomfort).
You will receive stitches, and swelling will be prominent for at least a week. It becomes nearly impossible to chew, swallow, or drink, even on the side that hasn't received the surgery.
---
On the bright side, getting rid of your wisdom teeth now will remove future discomfort, as the wisdom teeth would normally cause you pain and case your teeth to become crowded in later years, often resulting in the need for braces if they are not removed.

Anyway, my sister had the top two pulled when she was 13. She was crying every waking hour unless she was asleep, or had taken a strong painkiller. It's not always as bad as either GL's, or my sisters experience, so don't worry too much, but prepare for the worst so your not surprised if it hurts....a lot.

1 1/2 hour each is only in very serious cases (like yours I guess) But the sharp pain is just presure, believe me, they drug you hard enough to poke your eyes out without being hurt. The swelling doesn't always last for a week, I had 2 done earlier on and the swelling was gone after a day, they told me it can differ for about 5-6 days. Swallowing hurts quite a lot, chewing only hurts when you have to chew small and/or hard things.

My teeth are naturally yellow, because they're hard. I'm going to get them bleached eventually.

Removing the wisdom teeth adds more space for your other teeth and prevents crowding.

My dentist pisses me off though. She's one of those condesending ones. Last time I went a couple months ago, her assistant said "Any problems with her, then?"
My dentist said "No, she's always very good, this one."
And then the assistant said to me, in the kind of voice you'd use to a toddler, "Oh, well done!"
Hang on. I'm seventeen, for ****'s sake. >.<
This dentist still tried to give me those "Well done, you've been brave!" stickers when I was fifteen. FIFTEEN.
I hate her.
And I'm rambling. ^^;; I'll stop now.

If I've not taken care of my teeth, all hell breaks loose.

I now have 3 dentists. One for regular check ups, one orthodontist for braces, and this new guy for my wisdom teeth. @_@ too..many...people..
And this new dentist, he's funny but his voice is like a rollercoster. It gets high then he starts talking normal and then he mumbles then it's a high note again. XD

Anyhow, I have three wisdom teeth instead of the usual four, right? I haven't had them removed, because I guess they haven't given me trouble yet. But the rest of the family has. They didn't like it much.
Try this:
Sit up against the wall.
Drop your head between your knees.
Breathe deeply while reciting the seven aphorisms to Akatosh.
Swallow the ointment.
In a short while, the hangover will be gone.

That might make me hyperventilate, WD.
And this topic is a year old: I just didn't want to make a new one.
I'm feeling a little better now that the pain medication kicked in.
I think I'm still bleeding, though.

I should've seen that. I think I remember seeing this topic a year ago, too.
Anyway, my avatar... LOOK AT THE AVATAR NOW.
