Japanese Game Sales ~**UPDATED**~ December 11 - 17

Posted 31 August 2006 - 09:32 PM
Important Note: Sometimes you will see two figures. If it is GAME SALES (i.e. the ones in green), then the one on the left is the sales for that week and the one on the right is the total sales of the unit. But if it is CONSOLE SALES (i.e. the ones in red), the figure on the left is sales for that week, but the figure on the right is for units sold that year only.

I guess it allows a view of game popularity across the world. Then again, pretty much everyone knows Nintendo will sell well in Japan as that's its home.
At least this isn't the the British chart. Last time I checked, Cars was top of the list. :D

DS tops 200,000 units in sales for that week. On the console/hardware front, Final Fantasy III tops 500,000 units sold since its release two weeks ago (Square Enix expected only 350,000) and New Super Mario Brothers is about to top three million units.

Any remaining regular DS systems that are sold are just those left over from before the Lite was released.

Oh, I didn't know that either. But as Me111 said, it makes sense, since it's so much better. But is the Lite more expensive than the original? If it is then all this makes EVEN more sense. Nintendo would want to make as much money as they could, even if it meant not allowing consumers to buy the cheaper of the two.

PSP - 26,995 [1,312,479] units
Even if the Lite is priced the same as the original, just look at those statistics. It's sold five times as much as the PSP this week, and in total over three times as many units (this year alone). Include another million for the regular DS, and you can see how Nintendo has continued to dominate the Japanese handheld market.

I love it how the 360 is doing so poorly, waddle on Microsoft, waddle on.

It seems all more and more likely that Nintendo will be number 1 once again. The DS obviously is already, but I'm talking about the console wars. The 360 isn't doing very well and it's been available for, what, a year? The PS3 will launch with a pathetic amount of systems and everyone seems to adore the Wii. Good on Nintendo!

Yes but it does make a good looking game which people are more interested in. That's why they aren't as popular.

Yea I was. I think I ditched Sony when I was playing SSBM for the first time sometime last week at a mates. I then went out and traded my old SP and PSP stuff (but I kept my DS :P).
I also could no be stuffed with the whole Sony V Microsoft thing. Nintendo is just plain old fun.
