I have a few files with the extension .flv that I would like to convert into other extensions (perhaps .avi or .rmv). Any program/software that would allow me to do this?

(I downloaded RealPlay Converter, but it's the trial version, and I can only convert the first 90 seconds of the video, as opposed to the whole video).

    Thanks.

FLV is the Flash Video format, which is highly compressed and optimized for streaming over the web. Unless the FLV is of unusually high quality, any transcoding is going to make it look even worse.

A google search for "FLV to AVI" reveals a number of tools that can do what you want.

I've attempted that, but most of the programs set limitations (i.e. only a specific duration of time, some convert the video but with no audio, etc.) and most have proven unreliable.

And yes, I am inquiring about FLV files taken from sites like YouTube. At the very least, is there a way to play those files in a media player, if not convert them?

mPlayer and VLC both play FLV format so I don't bother converting.

VLC has had problems playing FLV formats (or at least, the latest version has issues). I'll try mPlayer though.

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLV

There seems to be a bunch of resource links for conversion and such. Also, you need to have VLC versino 8.4a or greater to play FLV files.
