So after spending 5 hours surfing this morning I've come home looking like a slightly roasted tomato. I've got two fat rings of dark dark skin around my ankles from my wetsuit which is too small for me. I touch my face and the pain is rather unpleasant. I'm boiling hot and I'm tired as tomorrows french toast (wtf?).

    So, onto my question.
What's the worst case of sunburn you've experienced and how did it come about?

I've actually gotten a first degree burn (mabey second, can't remember) from the sun, and it was bad enough for me to want somebody to knock me out no matter what it took. It was VERY painful, I was hot and uncomfortable, and I was peeling like crazy. And then it started itching REALLY badly. That's when I wanted to be unconcious. I've had a few other sunburns that were almost as bad. I don't tan at all. ;)

I've never had any REALLY bad sunburns, but this year when I went to Greece my feet got sunburned on the second day. They were red all through the holiday. It wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't as bad as what happened to Toasty.

I remember in france I wanted to sleep all the time because it was so bad. I tan easily though, but I probably got burnt because I had no suncream on. I actually wanted to chop off my shoulders and back.

I never use lotion or anything. I enjoy a nice healthy tan.

Though I've been sunburned before, when I went to the beach with my friends one time. It was painful, especially since it was around the neck.

I was out on the beach all day, with no sunscreen or anything. I got those little bubbly things all down my back and arms, and then 3 days later I was peeling like anything. And it hurt. A lot.

I managed to get sunburn on Sports Day a few years ago. All I did was sit in front of the area where all of the sports people were and I got burnt.
I didn't get burnt on holiday, even though I didn't really use lotion. My mum burns easily though.

One of the worst places to get burned is on your neck, because then it hurts to move. But if you get a really bad burn, the worst place is on your back because you'll sweat easier there, and then you'll be itching like crazy. I also once got blisters from a sunburn. It may seem like I've had a lot of bad sunburns, but I think I've only had four. Then there was another time where I got a heatstroke instead (or something like it). My stomach was really upset. I hureld my entire lunch, and since I ate a lot, you can just imagine.

Aloe Vera Gel helps a lot with sunburn. I've been burnt before, especially when we went to Florida in 2004. I hate sunscreen, but I hate sunburn more. Sometimes I forget to put the damn sunscreen on and that's what happens.

Bad sunburn is waaaay worse. I really hate sunburn. I really do. T-shirts are your friend. I have lost count how many times I have forgot to put suncream on.

I'm going to say it again. Aloe Vera is a wonder plant! We got this gel for my sunburn and it stopped itching immediately!

Of course, you'd do better to avoid sunburn altogether.

Yes, Aloe Vera works wonders. Trust me, I'd know. I don't know how bad of burns the rest of you have, but I'd bet a lot of money that my worst one was just as bad, or worse even. By the way, a perscription works even better than aloe vera. I got the perscription I use on bad burns when I got my worst burn. I usually put that on, then let it soak in, and then put aloe vera on as well, It usually clears it up within a few days.

I often get burnt on the back of the neck, and that's hell painful.

Also, put sunscreen on after you get burnt too, it helps. That said, any lotion should have the same effect (cooling, keeps the skin hydrated blah blah etc whatever the hell it does that works)

There's nothing stopping you from a really bad burn over here. It tends to happen on the beaches more than the in the cities, however.
