I like DVD better. It's got better movies and repeats its movies without rewinding, and it can be taken places w/o carrying a tape.

I still cling to my woefully out of date VCR for one reason and one reason only. re-recording. If I want to tape something so I can watch it later, I'd have to buy a new DVD every single time! But I've had the same tapes for 12 years, and they're still going.

If we're talking about purely technical terms, then obviously DVD has the VCR beat.

However, I agree with Platinum Sun that VCR's are a bit more handy when it come to re-recording (and yes Phantom, there are DVD re-writeable discs).

I also have a VCR for purely the nostalgic value. All of my family's home videos from the past, for example, are in the VCR format.

I have a DVD-RW disc. It hasn't worked in any of three computers or my DVD player. I looked and found out that RW-capable DVD recorders can cost in the thousands. And the capacity degrades after every recording.

^ That's definitely true. DVDs suffer from more compatibility issues, and just the entire process is more trouble than it's worth.

Same here. This summer, I hope to work with a family friend to convert our VCR tapes into DVDs, though.
