Name Day is like a second birthday. On your name day, you get presents and cake. Name Day is also the same like your birthday, but Name Day is counted less. My Name Day is around the beginning of summer.
    Do you celebrate Name Day?
    When is your Name Day?

Can't say I've ever heard of it. According to Wikipedia, it's because it doesn't happen over here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_day
The only person with two birthdays here is the Queen. Lucky. Also is there really no better name for it?

I was born in Canada, but my background is from a country that celebrates Name Day.
        P.S.
I do not think there is a better name in English for Name Day.

          But seriously Name Day?
It's like calling Valentine's day 'Love Day' or Thanksgiving 'Turkey Day'.

They have it mediterranean countries, plus France. Every saint had it's own day. And people were nearly named after a saint or a similar version too it. So basicly your name day was the saint your named after day.

The names of the saints also varies per country. In France my nameday would be on the day of St. Rupert/Robert. (My name is Ruben, btw.)
Which I believe was 21st of May.

I think Eastern countries have it too.

Looks like it's when a Saint with your name is celebrated, according to SS. You'd just have to try and find a saint with your name.

So i guess its a bunch of catholicism then. I won't say anything about catholicism (just because i don't want to offend anybody).

Oh, so that's what it means. There probably is a Sveti Stevan(Saint Stevie) in Serbia. Hmm... I wonder if there is a saint by your name Me111. I don't think there ever was a Saint Nigel Buckminster. :D

Does that mean that Marky Mark was a Catholic? That's pretty hard to believe....

                              My name's John...like the apostle.

Ok, in Europe all names were and often are named after a saint. Each day of the year is given to a certain saint. Except for Easter, Christmas, Ascension day etc..

The day given to the saint you were named after is your name.

The name day calender is often the same between countries and only differs in spelling caused my a different pronounciation. Ex.: Mark is in french Marc or Marque.

Your name can also be a variant of a saint's name. Robin is a variant of Robert. St. Robert's day is therefore Robin's name day.

Name days eventually developped itself into a sort of second birthday is some countries. Mostly Eastern and Southern Europe.
