Filming Begins for Harry Potter 5
    February 2, 2006

Principal photography will commence February 6 at Leavesden Studios on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved "Harry Potter" novel series.

Directed by award winning British filmmaker David Yates (The Girl in the Café, Sex Traffic, State of Play), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is produced by "Harry Potter" film series producer David Heyman and David Barron, from a screenplay by Michael Goldenberg (Where the Wild Things Are, Peter Pan, Contact).

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson reprise their roles as close-knit teen wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The production also welcomes back production designer Stuart Craig, costume designer Jany Temime, creature effects supervisor Nick Dudman, special effects supervisor John Richardson and visual effects supervisor Tim Burke. The director of photography is Slawomir Idziak (King Arthur, Black Hawk Down) and the editor is Mark Day (The Girl in the Café, State of Play).

Joining the stellar cast are Imelda Staunton (Nanny McPhee, Vera Drake) as Dolores Umbridge, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher; George Harris (The Interpreter, Black Hawk Down) as Kingsley Shacklebolt; Helen McCrory (Casanova, Enduring Love) as Bellatrix Lestrange; Natalia Tena (Mrs. Henderson Presents, About a Boy) as Nymphadora Tonks; Kathryn Hunter (All or Nothing, Orlando) as Mrs. Figg; and 14 year-old newcomer Evanna Lynch (pictured above), who beat over 15,000 hopefuls at an open casting call to win the role of Luna Lovegood, a Ravenclaw student who becomes an important ally of Harry, Ron and Hermione's.

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community is in denial about the teenager's recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort, preferring to turn a blind eye to the news that Voldemort has returned. Fearing that Hogwarts' venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about Voldemort's return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students. But Professor Dolores Umbridge's Ministry-approved course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the dark forces threatening them and the entire wizarding community, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry takes matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves "Dumbledore's Army," Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released in 2007.

    A Date For Harry Potter
    Prince and Phoenix updates!
    by Stax
August 8, 2006 - According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has announced that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will open November 21, 2008.

No director has been hired yet for the sixth installment but series vet Steven Kloves will pen the screenplay adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel.

The November bow signifies a return of sorts for the Warners franchise. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban opened in July and the upcoming installment, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is also set for a July debut. But otherwise all the Potter films have opened in November.

In related news, set reports for the now-filming Order of the Phoenix are popping up online. HP4U.co.uk has a report on scenes being shot at Virginia Water involving the characters of Professor McGonagall, Hagrid and Slytherins Draco, Crabbe and Goyle.

Meanwhile, The-Leaky-Cauldron.org has posted spy photos of Daniel Radcliffe as Harry on the Phoenix set. The set is reportedly supposed to be Privet Drive

Posts are never too big if they have a point.

Yay.... another movie.... I'll only watch if Emma Watson has a bigger part then the last one. She's about the only character I like better in the movie then in the books.

Am I the only person in the world who cant stand Harry Potter ._.

I dont get why everyone likes it so much, let alone makes a topic offering to give out information on it. That said, JK Rowling has made so much money off all of this so...go her i guess.

        But meh...another film =/

I absolutely love the books and I can't wait for number seven to be released, but to tell you the truth, I absolutely HATE the films. I've seen the first and second ones in the cinema, but I haven't seen any since, because the first two were so crap. They totally ruined the whole Harry Potter universe. They cannot even be compared to the books.

My interest in both has gone down. I'm not that excited over either the books or the films.

I always get interest again like about a month before it's released, book or movie.

Harry Potter is one of the best series out, period. Even if it's 'immature' like some people say (I disagree though), the writing in it is totally amazing and JK Rowling deserves credit for making alot of people realise the beauty of reading again.

JK Rowling, John Grisham and Dan Brown are three writers who make excellent novels, especially John Grisham ^^

Well, to tell you the truth, I say the books rock and the 4th movie sucked! If the 5th is going be dumb, I am not buying the two last movies.

                  Eugine, try Harlen Coben.

Movies suck, the books are far better.

I agree that the movies are not as good as the books, but I will still watch the movies when they come out on DVD. The biggest problem with the movies is the huge gap that has started developing in between the movies. It started with only being a year, then a year and a half, and now two years.

The thing about the movies is that they're too cramped. It's like trying to fit a novel into a short story. It doesn't work well. It's too rushed. I saw the trailer for OtP, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, though.

If they wanted to fit everything in, then they'd need to make about two films for each book. It does feel pretty rushed.

I'll probably watch the movie anyway. Some girl will come up and say: "Hey, I want to see the HP movie, would you like to come with me." I'll be like: "Let's see, have I got anything to do... no, ok I'll come."

Then after the movie I'll complain about Emma Watson needing more screen time. The girl will be like: "What is it with Emma Watson?" And I'll explain she's the only character I actually like from the HP series.

That was how it went with the last movie at least.

The problem with books is that there so long. You can watch 3 movies in the same time as reading a decent normal standard book. And I for one have less time left to read. So when I do have time I just watch a DVD.

I'm not complaining about the length. But it's... people can watch a movie or read a book and still know the same story. Movies just take less time to "learn" the story. So you can "learn" 3 stories moviewise in the time you can "learn" one story bookwise. You sacrifice the sensation of reading or the sensation of having more time.

I watched the trailer, and even though the movies are so-so for me, I still want to see it. Plus, in this book/movie, Harry PMS' pretty much every five seconds.

I just saw the trailer for the fifth movie on youtube a few days ago. I didn't look quite as actiony (making up words now) as I thought it would be, although the book didnt have much action till the end. I guess i'll wait and see it before I judge it.

Going back to the PMS thing, what I find odd and slightly disappointing about the whole thing is that Harry is only irritable and 'adolescent-y' for the fifth book. It's as if he only has that part of his personality for his fifteenth year of life. Surely, there should have been some signs of that in his fourth year, and maybe a bit left over in the sixth? There was none though...which is an odd choice by Rowling.
