Celestia is a free-roaming simulation of the universe. Hundreds of thousands of objects are built-in, but you can download millions more. While not as perfect to detail as Google Earth, the sheer scale and variation of the covered areas really is amazing.

If you set the date correctly, you can get a snapshot into the universe at that instant. If you see an object in the distance, you can simply click on it and hit G, and you'll zoom in on it in seconds. You can download countless extras at the Celestia Motherlode, but the community seems to have become stagnant. If you look around you may find others.
The program takes up less than 50MB, downloads quickly and will work on almost any system. Celestia will run best on a fast machine, but will usually experience slowdown on objects with extra high detail, usually the downloadable ones. In theory you could create your own models, if you have the right tools.

;o It takes up less space than a bible black episode. That's coo'.
I'm downloading now. I'll edit with my official noob thoughts on it.
It's pretty sweet, but I tend to get lost about 5 minutes in and have to restart >_>.

That's pretty neat. Does it display the darkholes and stuff like that? Maybe I can use it for my science projects later on.

Nope, as far as I know it displays stars, planets, moons, comets, asteroids and galaxies. It apparently shows nebulae, but I can't seem to get this working.
Sorry for reviving, but I didn't realise somebody has replied.
