It's quite parodied, especially in Peanuts, but I think it's worth asking. Do you live your life by any maxim, saying, what have you, be it cliched, paragraphs long, etc?

Even though there aren't all-encompassing phrases, I'm curious. Cheers!

As lazy it sounds, mine is "Let things run their course; don't fight it, take advantage of it." Basically, carpe diem! Yeah!

I'm quite fond of "All things in moderation." However that one is old and cliched.

I prefer a bit of wisdom that I came up with myself:
"I can live healthy or die happy, I choose the latter."

I completely agree with PS's words.

The one I have use often is "If someone else can do it, you can do it too." Just change 'someone else' or 'you' with real names and you can use it all the time!

I kind of made my own saying. It's not a line I must live by, but it frequently helps me to put myself back in position.

"Enjoy, have fun. But also take time to listen."

Kind of means that you can do whatever you want, hang out with friends, party, do whatever, but do not ignore shouts for help.

One that I didn't come up entirely by myself with, is "Everything that happens, happens for good." Basically, no matter how bad the event is, something good will always come of it. I truly believe that, becasue in every situation I've been in, it's been easily applied. I havn't been in a situation before that didn't have at least something good come of it.

                Some well-known ones:

"Be humble in victory, and defeat."
                "No pain, no gain."
"It is better to remain quiet and be thought the fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."
"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."
"Why do tomorrow what you can do today?"

And a few of my own invention (on the spot really):

"Trust in only what you know is for certain."
                "Complacency breeds failure."

I could go on, listing what I do and don't believe, what I try and live by, what I don't think people should live by, but I haven't the time to do so.

I don't really have a Philosophy, it'll change depending on my mood and situation, although I would say "Friends are Important".

How about "Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"?

I very much agree with of of the things that Wifle said.

Another one I made up, I said it in the Useless Ideas topic: "A nice lie is far worse than a bad truth." And I really mean it.

Given the people I know, that comes in really handy. One half thinks they're losing it, and the other half is just kind of...there.

My philosophy in life is formed around chivalric virtues. Defending when others can't, courage and confidence, justice, honesty, decency and honour, stuff like that.

I generally go by something like this: "Live so that when you look back, you'll smile, but don't goof off too much."

                            I'm still working on it.

Haha, I've had this as my own personal motto for a long time:

                                    I'm torn and I'm used
                                    I'm battered and bruised
                                    but I won't give up, I won't give in,
I'm fighting for love and destined to win.

:D I guess it's kinda old, now that I'm not fighting for love anymore. Huh, I should get a new motto then.

"If you see a light at the end of a tunnel, beware of a train."

Thats a good place to start...

XDDDD Man, that's really a good place to start. If we expand on that, perhaps we can discuss how trains are a metaphor for something. Perhaps that train would be the harbringer of justice?
