I know there's still awhile until E3 but seeing this section on Gamespot got me excited enough to make a topic. It also showed me that there were games that are coming out that I didn't know about. (Rayman Raving Rabbids 2?)
Anyone else excited about it?

It's not gone, Mr. T. It was redone, moved from May to July, and made more "intimate" - there won't be an extravagant show floor of games, but instead, there will be smaller media and corporate displays.

However, the big pre-E3 shows from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, are still there, and that's always the most important gaming news of the year.


Personally, I'm excited. Last year was about the promise of new technology and what it could do - however, this year, it's more about the games, as all the consoles have been released. The games that will provide the momentum and finally prove the hype.

I do expect a redesigned PSP though to compete with DS, which has been slaughtering it.

By now I'd guess the answer would be no.
I doubt there will be many shocks console wise. The next gen (or current gen now) systems are all out nd it will be awhile before anything new turns up.

At any rate, what are the big titles that will be shown at E3? On Nintendo's front, it's Brawl, Galaxy, Corruption. Microsoft has Halo 3, and all those great 3rd party games (Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed, etc.). PS3 has many of the same titles (including the exclusive Final Fantasy XIII), but anyone know what's coming out on their first party front?

Yeah, as far as I know only booth babes cosplay at E3, and I don't even know if they're going to have the booth babes this year. If they don't, I can't say I'm going to miss them. :) As much as I love babes, I always thought it was kind of dumb to have them at a gaming convention.

I don't like to get excited about things until they actually start happening (the more excited you get, the more likely you'll get disappointed), so I'm not really going to get excited about E3 just yet. I still don't own any consoles, so the only thing that I'd like to hear about is the new Zelda for the DS.

Yeah, it's coming out in North America for the holiday season, not to mention it got a nearly perfect score from Famitsu, the Japanese gaming magazine (39/40, a higher rating than Twilight Princess got). It's already sold through 350,000 units in its first week of release, and the touch screen controls supposedly are natural and innovative.

Didn't hear about that, must be pretty recent news. But that's great! Except now I don't have much to look forward to for E3 in this case. :) Well, hopefully (crossing my fingers here) some new stuff for Spore and some other PC games I can look for in 2008.

Hey, Sonic and the Secret Rings for Wii was definitely the start of a turning point. Not perfect, but definitely an improvement.

That said, I'm very interested to see Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, for both DS and Wii. Sega has high expectations of the game, believing it could sell several million units, and I want to see how it would be played.

To Zelda fans- Phantom Hourglass is fantastic, I have the Jap version, great game.
Only, when is the 'holiday season' for Jap and USA? Several games are coming out then that I want.

Hopefully some good Wii stuff is out. Last thing I bought was my copy of Zelda at launch...Hopefully some better N64 games for the Virtual console...

See, i've played every available metroid game apart from Prime 2. Super Metroid, Fusion, ZM, Original ( on ZM though), Prime, Hunters. And Ridley is just too awesome to not have in Brawl. He looks mint in the opening video, and fits in awesome. Why bother leave him out?

That's only 3 games for the year. Previous console generations (and PCs) have had much, much better years. The Wii's been out for almost a year and this is the best we're getting? I'm just not impressed. You can say those three are going to be as uber as you want, and I'll be waiting to see it.

I never got into PC gameing because my hardware could never handle it. My PC can barely run Starwars Battlefront (the first one) without glitching or skipping frames (it skips from time to time). Haven't played that in a long time though.

Consoles on the other hand, well, they don't glitch nearly as often as PC's, though that's slowly becoming untrue due to all the consoles slowly evolving into un-upgradeable PC's (their hardware and circuitry designs are becoming that of computers). The only difference, is that with consoles there's a standard, and that's what the three current consoles can handle, whereas with PC's, there's a huge diversity in hardware, software, speed, power, you name it.

But even though Ninty only has three good titles comming in, there'll be a lot more in due time. Hopefully the Wii will be able to handle NFS: ProStreet, which is supposed to be really good. It's description reminds me of Porsche Unleashed, one of their best titles yet IMO.

Wind Dude, don't forget the third party showings - FIFA and Madden, Dragon Quest and RE: Umbrella Chronicles, etc.

Wii Fit has to be one of the most brilliant ideas ever. Say what you will about it, it far outshines any other "gimmicky" casual game out there, and has the potential to make the Wii even more popular to the mass market.

I was very satisfied with the performance by Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for DS, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The live demonstrations, plus the graphics, were fantastic, and definitely made me even more certain of the touch screen and Wii controls, respectively.

Even Reggie admitted that Galaxy will be the "true successor" to Super Mario 64, which I found surprising.

All in all, great. No true "megaton" announcement from any of the conferences, but solid all the same.


Remember though, Brawl was unveiled last year on the last day of E3. So you never know. Wait for this Friday, and cross your fingers for this.

The only difference, is that with consoles there's a standard, and that's what the three current consoles can handle, whereas with PC's, there's a huge diversity in hardware, software, speed, power, you name it.

But even though Ninty only has three good titles comming in, there'll be a lot more in due time. Hopefully the Wii will be able to handle NFS: ProStreet, which is supposed to be really good. It's description reminds me of Porsche Unleashed, one of their best titles yet IMO.

That's it though. My PC can handle most anything atm, and there's not one thing that Sony or Microsoft can offer me that I can't already get on PCs. I prefer shooters with a mouse and keyboard rather than with a gamepad, and I don't have to pay subscription for multiplayer on a PC, so that rules out Xbox for me.

The Wii was the only thing I was honestly interested in, though that was mostly for playing GameCube games and the Virtual Console. It's still too hard to find, and it still seems as if Nintendo is going the wrong way with it. I'm not entirely convinced that ol' Grandpa Jenkins and your mom are ever going to be interested in video games like Nintendo's hoping. Throw your real fans a bone, and that means more than just 3 games to end this and half of next year with. I think you guys are getting a bit screwed here.

But there are other game, and other systems. Myself I own a modded PS2 with over 60 games, the only real one being KH2 imported from America. And I have a DS with a slot-1 and slot-2 flash card, meaning I can play games on the DS/GBA/GB/GBC/NES/SNES/Sega Mega Drive/Sega Master System/Sega GameGear. So the Wii has my N64 virtual titles, and real GC and Wii titles. Not to mention I actually have a life and play plently of sport, so the lack of games doesn't affect me. Whereas the one's we are getting are of good quality, so I feel differently too you.

Well, I doubt us PAL gamers will be getting Brawl till, at the very least, February. But at least now I know that I can plan my money out.

I doubt I will be getting Corruption for a while, as i've heard from lots of places it's been transformed into an FPS. I preferred Prime just as a First Person adventure game. But i'll see how it turns out.

What, for Mario Kart?

The video was quite blurry, but i'm sure that the Wii wheel had buttons on the back. I'm guessing thats because some of the buttons on the Wiimote are hard to get to when side on. Mario Kart only really needs 3 buttons; Accelerate, item and powerslide.

I'd agree but for more than just the games posted above. With FFXII, Phantom Hourglass, Sonic Rush Adventure (please don't be awful!), those and others having been great or looking great, I'd say it's all good.
Now if only Nintnedo decided to release Wario Ware: Twisted in Europe things would be great.

With the lists everyone is posting, it look's all cool. But it's all the same old crap. Where's another Secret of Mana, or some other brilliant RPG? Maybe if Revenant Wings is translated for the DS. Zelda doesn't count in my eyes.
And, we need a good FPS. Halo is **** so don't use that as a comeback.

No More Heros is pretty origional I guess. You go around as an assassin with a beam sword, and you work your way up in the Assassin's standings. Kinda like in NFS: Most Wanted, but this is with swords and you can travel around a city.

If games suck, then dont buy them. Mario Party stays alive because people keep buying it, hoping for something new, but there never is. People dont learn. That said, E3 is now over, and if it's one thing that's been proven, it's that this event is no longer the "defining" gaming event of the year. It's still important, but not to the extent it was before. In many ways, that's positive, because this means that companies will now save many big announcements throughout the year, instead of just focusing on the one week (though admittedly, that's what made E3 fun in past years).

So, what are your thoughts about it? What were your favorite moments, revelations, etc. from this E3?

Brawl's at least being released later this year in some territories, where as Mario Kart was only revealed a few days ago, and is a schedule 2008 release for all territories. All in all, E3 wasn't spectacular, but it was good enough. Having release dates for Galaxy and Brawl was the best thing about it. Also seeing Mario Kart Wii and Soul Calibur Legends screen shots was great.

Well there's new weapons, and new lighting dynamics. Like if you go from bright sun outside into a pitch dark room, it takes a little time to adjust. Which I think is pretty cool.

That's called HDR. It's been around for a little while but it isn't anything new. Personally, while it looks cool and makes shadows look crisper it seems to look more like the way that a camcorder adjusts to light rather than how human eyes actually treat light.

Look at my sig. THAT is HDR. Notice how the sky is bright while the area around it is a little darker. Very dynamic lighting. I'll post some screens of Oblivion later with Bloom vs. HDR just because it's kind of cool.

Sorry about that weird change in weather; I had to disable some mods because some would only work with HDR while others wouldn't work with HDR blah blah. As you can see, HDR is REAL light (the sky is bright while the character's "eyes" are adjusted to what is ahead" while bloom is sort of more like a filter that goes across the screen. Both are infintely better than no lighting. Some prefer Bloom over HDR because HDR is too bright. I have to remind them, if you actually go outside on a sunny day in real life... it's pretty damn bright. Though some games do get carried away with bright lighting, I think HDR is a new technology that developers like to toy with (like CG in movies) and it'll be perfected some day.

Halo is overrated, but it doesn't suck. It has some of the best vehicle stages of any FPS I've played, and it's just generally more simple than other shooters, but in a good way. Simplicity is fun.

The first one was puzzle based with combat thrown inbetween. The second one added strategy, with the dark Aether and bubbles and all( hoping for a Brawl stage like that) and now, Prime 3 is focused around combat, with all the space pirates, corruption and Dark Samus.
