New GSS Website Launch on 06-04-2009
Posted by Max
It's been a long time coming (over 2 years), but the announcement of Golden Sun DS has prompted me to finish things up and get it launched. So here it is, and I hope you all like it.
The design is courtesy of old-time forum member Andrew Hefter, with my own tweaks where needed. You may be familiar with the design theme from the forums.
One of the great things about the new site is that virtually every object has its own page, and everything is hyperlinked. Whenever you are looking at a listing, you can almost always click on the thing's name and go to a page with more details. Many of the tables are also sortable by clicking on the headers.
Be sure to check out the new music library to help you remember the feel of the old games.
I've added a new GS DS section where I will be collating everything we learn about the new game. I've included quick links at the top of the homepage to make it easier to find.
I'll be rolling out some final things (a new sprites library, more maps for some parts, etc.) over the coming week, but I wanted to get this out the door quickly. Let me know if you find anything that doesn't work or if you have ideas for content we could add.
Happy Holidays on 12-25-2008

It's that time of year again. Happy holidays everyone. After a long and trying semester, it's nice to be home with family for the winter holiday season. I hope everyone's year went well, and I wish everyone the best in the new year to come.
In the craziness of end-of-semester exams and traveling home, I missed the site's seventh birthday back on the 12th. That's more than a third of my lifetime, which is a humbling (and scary) thought. I still have the final version of the site in my work queue, but I don't have any estimate of when it'll finally see the light of day. I really want to do it right, which just means it has to wait until I have a solid block of time to focus on it. Perhaps next summer, who knows.
As I've always said, as long as people continue to visit the site and forums, I'll keep them online. So thank you for participating, and I hope you continue to stick around for awhile longer.
School Again on 08-27-2008

Today was my first full day back on campus, although I don't actually start classes for another week. As seems to be the trend, I did not accomplish as much as I had hoped this summer, this time due to my summer job and some matters at home. I tend to enjoy taking time off during the summer, so that I can be more productive during the school year, and I feel pretty ready to get back to work.
Once some time opens up in my life, my first priority with regards to GSS will be finishing up the revamp project and launching the new version of the site. Fortunately, all the data entry is finished (thanks everyone!), so right now it is just a matter of designing and coding all the various pages. I'd also like to have at least a partial German translation of the site done before I launch it, and translators for any other languages are encouraged to email me so we can discuss other language versions of the site (note: only languages for which GS and TLA were released *in that language*).
I believe there might be some forum news in the near future, look for an update from GL on that front.
Still Alive on 06-30-2008

It has been almost 3 months since my last news post, so I just wanted to reassure people that everything is fine with the site. Although it will not be as complete as I had originally hoped, I intend to launch the new version of GSS before the summer is out. Work on GSW is currently still proceeding at a trickle, as my job and another project have left me with very little time for other substantial projects (like GSS and GSW). By the end of the summer I hope to have a better idea of where things stand with GSW long-term. I hope everyone is enjoying their summers, and thank you for continuing to visit the site and/or forums.
Recruiting Staffer on 04-08-2008
Posted by Max
In May 2007, I started the GSS Revamp project. It is now April 2008, and the project is still not complete. Tremendous progress has been made, and most of the raw content work is already done.
However, I'd like to recruit someone to help write text for introductions, explanations, and other such things. This will probably require about 20-30 hours of time, and requires someone who can truly commit the time, has played the games, and is familiar with as much of the content as possible. I'd like to finish this by the end of May at the latest, so I'd prefer someone who can begin work immediately.
If you are interested, please send me an email (maxcutler@gmail.com) with your contact info, a brief explanation of why you'd like to help, and a rough idea of when you'd be able to do the work. If you've done work on another website, a link showing me your work would be appreciated.
IGN Interview on 04-01-2008

Any news from Camelot nowadays is worth a look, so I wanted to point out a recent IGN article and interview. Draw your own conclusions, but it looks like another 6-12 months before they'd be ready to announce their new title officially. More updates from me soon.
Smash Disappointment & Status Report on 01-31-2008

With today's launch of Super Smash Bros Brawl in Japan, it appears that the Golden Sun series has again gotten the short end of the stick in the Nintendo world. While there still remains a remote chance that a GS character is a hidden character that noone has found yet, I think it is more likely that all we will get is a trophy or similarly trivial homage. Oh well, maybe GS3 will give the series enough popularity to be in the next version of Smash Bros, if either game ever gets made.
With regards to this site, I've been on a hiatus of sorts since mid-December due to a variety of "real life" factors. The new GSS site currently sits at about 90% complete, though the last 10% is taking a long time, and may take through the end of February for me to wrap up. From there, I turn it over to the translators and then we'll see a launch sometime shortly after that.
I also currently have some plans for the forum, but that is contingent upon an outside factor which has been a bit slow to develop, so that may have to wait until closer to the site launch. I've given a preview to some of the moderators and have gotten positive feedback, so it should be worth the wait.
Finally, on the GSW front, I've gotten close to securing a good deal on a server, which means that it will actually be able to run 24/7 on a production server, and not off of someone's home computer. On the actual application side, Adobe's AIR product is rapidly approaching its 1.0 launch, which means that I can begin coding in earnest. I've done a fair amount of up-front design work, and have come up with some good feature ideas in the past few days. Once I do some prioritization and workload estimation, I'll post a roadmap so people have some idea where the project is going. See a roadmap here.
2008 should be a great year for this site and our community, and I hope you will all stick around and be a part of our future.
Happy Holidays & Winter Break on 12-27-2007

It's that time of year again, and I'm going to be leaving for a vacation with my family today. I'll be returning the second week of January, and I hope to have some news for you all about the site and GSW when I return. I hope you all had a good holiday season, and I shall return in 2008.
Six Years, Part 2 on 12-12-2007
Posted by Max
Six years ago today, the Golden Sun fansite Isaac's Revenge was launched. I personally would join IR about a month later, leading eventually to the site's merger with Golden Sun Haven to become today's Golden Sun Syndicate. Although IR was not the first GS fansite, its launch anniversary is a personal milestone, and it is humbling to see the site still alive after all this time.
I had originally intended to launch the new version of GSS today to celebrate the anniversary of IR's launch, but life conspired against me to prevent that. The site is almost complete, with only some minor details and polish left to be done. In addition, I'm happy to announce that the site will be bilingual upon release, with both English and German versions. Also, a new version of the GSW site will be released at the same time, showcasing my plans for that project.
I hope to have this triple launch (English GSS, German GSS, and GSW sites) by the end of the year, although I may instead hold it back until mid-to-late January if any issues arise. Again, thank you all for continuing to visit this site, and I hope that you will continue to visit and participate in the forums for the foreseeable future.
