My internet is terrible. The wiresless never works ever, and the wires for it are too short to reach the places of the house that need wires. So, it's pretty useless. There's only 3 computers with internet, including one laptop. But we're getting a new wireless router this week. I'm taking something heavy/sharp to the old one. I think we have a crowbar somewhere. Modem tennis, anybody?

    Yeah, discuss.

I've never had a problem with things not reaching, but maybe that's because I'm a comparitive asetic with my one computer and one DSL connection.

We've got a slow computer with a wicked fast connection, which translates into average speed. We've got fiber optic, which is as about as fast as you'll get. I also just hooked up our wireless router today, which will pretty much benefit me and only me as I'm the only one with anything that can use WiFi (my DS). At least until we get a laptop or second computer.

I don't know why you supplied checkboxes in your poll. As if we'd have all three...

I use either DSL or broadband. I think they're the same though.

Some people might have wired and wireless, to back each other up.

I've never heard of anyone who uses two different modem devices as a safeguard. Why would one work and the other not? And if so, why not have two of the same device?

I haven't ever heard of WiFi backing up a land line, since the wireless relies on the land line, but I have heard of a land line backing up wireless.

The only reason I could think of for having both WiFi and Ethernet would be that ethernet is faster, and the computer (probably a desktop) closest to the router would have an ethernet connection, while the rest would be wireless.

A wireless router? You can just go out and buy your own you know. Ours was pretty cheap, but it works great. It's a linksys wireless G router.

I have the same as Mr. T. I used to have problems with my internet dropping every ten minutes (Those were the days...) but since we got the Linksys, I haven't had a problem. Our router is so well hidden that if you don't have the name of the router or the password, you can't see it on the available network list. When we had annoying neighbors, we had problems with them trying to hack into our network, but this solved it all (and thankfully, they moved.)

If you're wireless internet runs throuhg your DSL connection, then that makes no sense at all. Unless it's either hooked up to a different connection, or you;re stealing band width from your neighbors.

You usually need a password to access a wireless network though.

Not all the time. If it's locked, there's a tutorial on wikihow for figuring out the IP.

There's also a tutorial on how to hack, forge e-mail (which is really easy btw), see well in the dark, hack a pop machine, speak gibberish, and many, many, MANY others.

Apparently, somebody in our house downloaded 9GB out of our alloted 12GB per month, in a single day. Now I know I was the only person in the house on that day but...c'mon! Nine gigabytes? I wouldn't have had the patience to download that amount of data.

Now we have a really crappy broadband speed until next month.

I don't think we've got a limit on ours. I don't even think we have ti share our bandwidth with anyone. Fiber optics rock. :P
