    Spoiler
got me thinking about this. 2012 seems to be a year under much speculation as the "end of the world". Maybe it means end of the world as we know it, or the complete end. Who is to say.

There are theories about an Avatar, cleasings, or just great disasters like a meteor. Can't really forget about Nostradamus now can we? Discuss. I'm interested to hear what people would think about this.

MAJOR ASSASSIN'S CREED SPOILERS. DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT IT SPOILED.

well i think there is actually an genetically enhanced super warrior amongst us whose mother is an alien. This individual is currently looking for a certain black object so he can call forth disaster from the skies

game plots are simply that, if you believe them as truth you need to start eating reality flakes for breakfast

The only realistic apocalypdse possibilites are natural disaster (meteor impact/rise in sea levels etc.) and nuclear boom.

I was merely giving an example. It had just gotten me thinking about the topic. I had heard about it a while ago, I just never put any thought into it.

Yeah, I went looking for these four little orbs because I heard somewhere that the world was getting smaller and smaller, but it was too cold outside so I went back home after about half an hour of searching for them...

This is how the world is going to end: Killercoz will use chemicals to have a genetically enhanced intelligence(as amazing as it already is) and physical strength(can't say I've got that). He will then create a chemical, that when used on humans, will kill they do not give the correct answer to a riddle created by myself, THE RIDDLER. By doing this only the smartest people will survive after the 24 hours the chemical has been released(it only effects you for 24 hours). This will solve over population and have it so that only the best genes survive(mechanical devices will not be nallowed to solve the riddles). Now a new legacy will begin for a more evolved race named the Cozonians or Homo cozzus.

I heard (although take it with a grain of salt) that in 2009 Jupiter will be closely alligned to Earth, creating tremendous changes to our 'natural balance'. As we know, Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and therefore will have a huge (in comparison to its previous) gravitational effect on Earth. With it comes dangerous storms, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc. and the entering of asteriods that were once under its influence to the Earth's atmosphere...
That's the closest I've heard to "end of the world" scenarios in the near future.

I know Jupiter's huge comparatively (some scientists say it was a precursor to a star that didn't have quite enough energy to materialize into one), and if so that seems like the only (distantly) plausible idea I've heard on the manner. Otherwise, all of this "zomg world is ending in year 20xx" is just nonsense.

It means my leader, or something like that, i think. I might have used the wrong term. That or it means tyrant, but then you would be if you carried out your plan.

Tyrant seems so negative. I would create a new term. I would be Cozonicus.

I think I should die in every forum. This would be my second. I have taken over the world yet so killing me would not make sense (or would it??). BTW I have come back from the dead as the Killder Riddler.

That would ruin everyone's christmas...

The mayan have predicted soooo many ends of the world that NOBODY pays any attention to them any more.

Seriously, end of the world theories are bull crap. I think that you should only pay attention to these theories when people actually start running around screaming in the streets whilst running away from a green figure wearing black question marks.

I don't want the world to end in 2012. If that happens, I won't be able to build my gaming industriy after i finish college.

Actually they only predicted 5, of which 4 have already been.

                                              Blabla, goes to wikipedia:

                                              Quote

                                              Metaphysical predictions
2012 is sometimes claimed to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.

Accordingly, several eclectic authors claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:

The 1995 book The Mayan Prophecies linked the Maya calendar with long-period sunspot cycles.

The book 2012: Mayan Year of Destiny claims the Maya may have been instructed in their wisdom by disembodied entities from Orion and the Pleiades. Contact was maintained through shamanic rituals conducted in accordance with the movements of planets and stars. However, some Mayan priests living and working in Guatemala assert that there is no legitimacy to this theory.

The 1997 book The Bible Code claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, a meteor, asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.

The book The Nostradamus Code speaks of a series of natural disasters caused by a comet (possibly as above) that will allow the third Antichrist to disperse his troops around the globe under the guise of aid in preparation for a possible nuclear war, although in the strictest sense it is unspecific as to nuclear war or some other natural or man caused destruction.

The book The Orion Prophecy claims that the Earth's magnetic field will reverse.

The 2005 book Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Ecstasy by Geoff Stray reviews several theories, prophecies and predictions concerning 2012 and finds where authors have used faulty information or have bent the truth to fit their theories.

The 2006 book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck discusses theories of a possible global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a noosphere.

The 2007 book Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation into Civilization's End by Lawrence Joseph does not make any specific new predictions, but it reviews a number of 2012 predictions made by various sources, and presents arguments for the possible existence of dangerous positive feedback loops involving solar storms, Earth's magnetic field, cosmic rays, hurricanes, global warming, earthquakes, and supervolcanoes that may be on the verge of erupting.

Other prophecies and apocalyptic writings and hypotheses for this year include:

Terence McKenna's mathematical novelty theory suggests a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.

Some proponents of a peak oil catastrophe place major events in 2012. Richard C. Duncan's book The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge claims that the Olduvai cliff will begin and permanent blackouts will occur worldwide. Several studies predict a peak in oil production in or around 2012.

Some alien-enthusiasts (e.g. Riley Martin), along with some new-agers, believe 2012 to correspond approximately with the return of alien "watchers" or "caretakers" who might have helped the first human civilizations with developing their technology and may have been waiting for us to reach a higher level of technological and/or social advancement. Beliefs range from the extra-terrestrials having benevolent purposes such as to help human society evolve to malevolent purposes such as enslavement of mankind and/or manipulation.

There is a Hindu following indicating the appearance of an Avatar (God in human form) with God-like powers who will herald a new age. A website to this effect appears at: End of the World 2012.

The alien-enthusiasts part made me laugh. Though it would make a good paper for science or something: "why the world will end in 2012!" "Verdict: bullcrap, in 2012 they'll just take all this books and name them: "The end of the world in 2020.""

Hmm... well, to try and play Devil's Advocate here, when would the world end? Or perhaps, when should it end? Do you think it's come to a point where having the world (hypothetically) end in 2012 would save us from something, whether indirect (something like a natural catastrophe) or direct (i.e. something like a WWIII)?
