If I had to think about it I'd also change the 6" speakers in the front of my car as they give too much treble, hurts my ears at too high volume, or I could just keep them, tone them down and put some 6x9 in my back shelf although a 12" sub kinda defeats the purpose....

So overall, I have something I'm going to buy myself anyway, clothes, and something that could be fixed with half a afternoon and a passenger.

Fix'd. Almost every monitor nowadays can match or beat 720p (and any self-respecting gamer has a screen that supports at least 1280x1024). Most monitors are about as good as 1080p aswell. Plus, screens that are physically smaller means smaller pixels, which means fewer jaged edges.

I decided to just get some upgrades for my computer. New processor, more (and faster) RAM, another hard drive, a better heatsink, and some much needed headphones. That's what I'm putting on my christmas list. Looking on Ebay to find a replacement for my Creative ZEN which I just recently killed. I got an amazing deal last time, so Ebay must be good for something after all.

I can attest to Monitors being > PCs for PC gaming. I've played on my brother's big screen at least 100 hours. I totally prefer the monitor because of
1) the whole setup usually being better than trying to play in front of a TV.
2) My brother's big screen is 1280x720 and my monitor is 1440x900

Dot pitch isn't the only factor, which is why no one plays on a screen that small.

Jagged edges are annoying, and anti-aliasing only goes so far. Besides, there's a noticeable difference between 1920x1080 and 2560x1600, and likewise, there's a noticeable difference in pixel densities. Smaller pixels means a clearer picture.

And most people who game on PC's care about this stuff to some extent.

Anyway, I still prefer the freedom of a TV setup to that of a computer, for two reasons. One, you're not restricted to sitting at a chair with your hands glued to the table, and two, you can actually use the computer itself while you're playing the game.

If you've got at least a 26" screen, you probably shouldn't have your face plastered to it.

And if you didn't already realise it, you can connect wired 360 controllers to a PC. That, or you can just get a good wireless controller from Logitech or something.

And if you know what you're doing, a PC can be ten times more versatile and free than a TV.

Though TV's are definately easier to work with, and are usually less of a headache.

My point being that PC monitors aren't exactly designed for long-distance play. Even if you have a wireless gamepad the screen is going to look even smaller if you're sitting three feet away.

I'll be getting a Pentium E5200 (it's a Wolfdale core with a 2MB cache running at 2.5GHz with an 800MHz FSB), along with 2x2GB sticks of some G. Skill DDR2 800 RAM, and a 500GB Seagate SATA hard drive for christmas this year.

I was hoping to get a Core 2 E8400 with a larger cache and faster FSB, but I'm confident that I can overclock the E5200 to a fairly decent speed. 4GHz at least. I also wanted to get a new pair of headphones, a better heatsink, and a 16GB flash drive, but that pushed the budget too high.


Probably would have asked for a 360 had known that Dell was selling Premium 60GB systems for $254 (or so I've heard. said $299 on their website just know, but there was probably a rebate. wtf amirite?).

Seeing as Intel has a track record of good overclocking CPU's, yes. My Pentium 4 that I'm using right now usually maxes out at around 4.7GHz on air, 5 GHz on water, and 8.2GHz on liquid nitrogen with a modified motherboard.

The Wolfdale's usually top out at 4.8 GHz from what I've seen.


Regardless, even at stock speed the E5200 will mop the floor with my overclocked P4 631.

I've got a pair of inner-ear ones that came with my sister's phone. They've got great sound quality (among the best I've encountered), and they're in perfect shape.
